Hi Palcal,

Thanks for letting me know, I didn’t realise my inbox was full.
I have deleted a lot of the older ones.

I have sent you a PM.

I'm just playing with a design for a little adapter that plugs into the expansion port on the rear of a Game*Mite and allows the connection of a WII Classic controller using GP26 and GP27 as I2C pins. Anyone interested or am I flogging a dead horse? I just thought it might be handy for those games that could use more controls.

The disadvantage is that it's a tiny PCB, only about 20mm square, so you could end up with a lot of them on a single order if they are panelized. :)

Fun idea, but honestly sounds like horse flogging , using an external controller on a hand-held device is really niche.

Best wishes,

On the other hand, and again not angling for it, but I know how you like your PCB engineering even if they never get built, why not make a PCB festooned with buttons (Directions, A, B, X, Y, START, SELECT, HOME, L & R) with either 2 shift-registers or an i2c chip that would mount over and overhang to the left and right the existing Game*Mite controller section ? Really I should have brought the RESET pin out on J10.

Best wishes,

Tom

It is, yeah. :)
However, trying to train muscle memory to deal with multiple layers of button combinations is a bit of a pig too. As the interface consists of a PCB, two resistors and a 2x7 female connector and the Classic is already supported it seemed to make some sort of sense at the time. :)

EDIT:

Now there's an idea.....

Mount that optional pcb with extra buttons in steadfastly the current dummy pcb.
That gives a firm construction.

I've had a bit of a look at the idea in general and TBH I'm not happy with any of the arrangements I've envisaged so far. Having buttons at different heights would be plain weird. Putting them over the top of the existing ones makes the buttons higher than the display. Putting the new ones out on "wings" on each side is one solution, but I don't feel that it's all that easy to use as it would be pretty wide.

Hi folks,

The Game*Mite user manual / build instructions have been updated to v1.2.0:

https://github.com/thwill1000/mmbasic-gamemite/blob/main/doc/GameMite-User-Manual-latest.pdf

Highlights:

  1. Now reflects the fact that it uses the standard PicoMite 5.08.00b5 firmware
  2. Added instructions for "Adding new programs to the GameMite menu"
  3. Updated instructions for "Powering the GameMite":
     - Do not charge unsupervised.
     - Keep the "Charge mode" link J9 open.
     - If you use a 3v7 LiPo with a capacity less than 1000 mAh then change
the charge programming resistor R3 on the TP4056 module appropriately.
     - If you are able to and even if using a 1000+ mAh battery consider changing
R3 to 2k2 to reduce the charge current from 1000 mA -> ~500 mA.

There have been NO reported problems charging the Game*Mite including when using insufficiently high capacity vape batteries, and these recommendations are made out of an abundance of caution, and because the internet seems to contain a few "ghost stories" about the TP4056 module with little evidence of a smoking gun. It may help that the Game*Mite is "extremely well ventilated" (at least that is one way of putting it) and that the current is limited by charger and cable.

All kits that I provide in the future will have R3 replaced by 2k2.

Best wishes,

Tom

Got a board and some bits and pieces from Bigmick, built it up and it worked first go.
A great design, compliments to all who helped design it.

Great News Paul,

Glad it worked first go.

It isn't a difficult build but I really recommended reading the construction manual before starting.

Regards,

Mick

Yes Mick that helped, I think it is the first time in my life I've done that. I usually build and when it doesn't work then I read the instructions.
One thing I did was scrounge the battery out of a mobile phone (a model that a friend bought from overseas that would not work on our network.) It is 3,400 mAH, it should last a while and just take longer to charge.

I think the Game*Mite is really cool! You should have seen my grandson's face when he saw it. He loved it too. :)

Tom, BigMick,

The game mite is soo much fun. This afternoon played alternating between me and my wife on this sunny afternoon. We had soo much fun. This is great.
I had to wear my glasses (eyes are not so good anymore) so I immediately ordered a 3.2" LCD for it.

Petscii runs good (thanks to Kevin and Yourself)
FlappyBird version 11 for the game mite also.
And the build in Circle game raises my heartbeat to the max

I will focus on Flappy to make it to your liking as my contribution to the platform. The multi button, include gfx in basic program, and I already have "night mode" running in VGA. But this requires a new gfx library.

Thanks for the great platform

Thanks Harm, I appreciate the ego-stroke, especially needed after I've wasted 2-3 hours of precious free-time today trying and failing to capture the talking head intro and outro for a video on the Game*Mite ... my ability to remember and recite even 4 sentences is pitiful, and if I read from cue cards you can see my eyes following the text ... I may still have to go with that just to let me put this to bed.

Thanks again,

Tom

Sorry to hear…

A way to do it could be  play back. Read the words while recording. Play it back while recording sound and video.
Or autocephalous just after the camera.

Just "soft focus" the camera. No=one will notice.  ;)

Use a "teleprompter" app. One or two words at a time scrolling up at a time so your eyes don't need to move. Download one for your phone or write one for a 'mite.

Hi Tom,
Like Harm, I have just loaded up your latest release, I hadn't realised that I didn't need the custom firmware any more :-( which makes it, for me, much better. :-)
Working great all built in programs work well, including Invaders, which no longer slows down. :-) I've even managed to add FlappyBird to the menu & run it from there, so great.
Thanks for the update.
Regards Kevin.

Hi folks,

After a great deal of frustrating effort resulting in something I'm not entirely happy with I present "Game*Mite the Movie" .

   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bx2vpwuXoo

Many thanks to @Turbo46 and @bigmik for watching innumerable cuts of this video and to @TweakerRay for trying to fix the sound even if ultimately I'd messed it up too badly to be helped.

Thanks for watching,

Tom
