I ordered up a Pimoroni Pico Plus 2 and regular Pico2. Now I have to wait to see how long it takes to ship to the United States.🧐 --Curtis I am not a Mad Scientist... It makes me happy inventing new ways to take over the world!! |

Some advice please. When pico2 arrives if I want vga, glcd, usb vga or usb glcd do I just use existing 2040 firmware and will the pico2 board be pin compatible with pico 2040? The new terminology is like when pio programming started on 2040 , over my head. It's all very interesting though. Great work developers are doing. |

The Pico 2 is pin-compatible with the Pico. It *isn't* firmware compatible, so the same version of MMBasic won't run (or even load) on it. You can run the same MMBasic programs though, providing you run the correct version of the firmware, of course. Stan, The original UF2 files for the pico work on the pico but not the pico2 The new collection of UF2 files for the pico2 will not work on the pico. Peter has provided MMBasic in all it's versions for pico and a second set for pico2. Just select the one you want making sure that you select from the pico2 collection for programming the pico2 and all will run as normal. Maybe a warning for people looking for the cheapest solution.... The RP2350 has a core voltage regulator (switching regulator) inside the chip. This is a challenge, high current electronics inside a small geometry device. In the RP2350 datasheet (6.3.8.3) there is a list of critical issues with this core voltage regulator. One of them is that you need a specific layout, and a special inductor(*). Otherwise the core voltage regulator is not stable. For experience I can see cheap chineese clones arriving with alternative inductors. These may work, but may not be as stable as RP's own boards. Until the dust settles, I personally would not blindly buy the cheapest clones... Your milage may vary.... Volhout (*) the winding of the inductor (magnetic field direction) is important, hence the inductors are marked with a dot. This is rare, and definitley not common among vendors. Peter, Don't use a SOT23 regulator for it. The switchmode regulator is designed to deliver 200mA from 1.1V for the cores alone. (resulting in 66mA from 3.3V). If you use a linear, and the cores would consume 200mA, you need to dissipate (3.3-1.2)*0.2 = 0.42 watt. In our custom to overclock (315 / 378MHz), the 200mA at 1.1V may be a reality.
