VGAMite (Bill Of Materials).zip

Quote  Also, what are the optional solder links on the board for? (like the ones  by GP6 and GP7). This board isn't very searchable, so it's not obvious if you've ever described what they do.

Quote  Is that one or both power regulators required?

  Quote  Changes:
Option for LM1117 regulator
SDcard swapped for the "standard" Maximite version (same as Geoff's PicoMiteVGA PCB)
Revised audio filter as per Volhout (thanks)
Revised VGA I/F using just 4 resistors and no diodes
40 way connector now wired correctly (pins 21-40 were wrong)
By default the VGA and audio pins are not connected to the two Pico additional footprints or the edge connector. Connection can be made using a solder blob on the shorting links
Traces re-routed to improve signal quality for audio and VGA

Quote  Also, I see there's a nice stereo audio out: what's it typically feed into? Headphones? Speaker? Amp?

Anything with highish impedance input - say 300ohm

Hi Peter,

Just investigating.. Do you have a spare 1.7 board that you can put in an envelope and mail to me?

If not, I will order some boards.

In that case, do you (or anyone else) need 1 or more boards.

Regards,

Volhout

Volhout - I've got a couple of boards from the July 29 release (which is as "final", but with a minor silkscreen error). Shipping even one from Canada would likely cost more than a full JLCPCB order, though

Hi scruss,

With Tom (thwill) from UK and Mick (bigmik) we have simply slid a single PCB in an envelope and send is as a post card (letter) with standard post stamp. Successfully.
Not sure if that works all the time, but it seems a way to avoid excessive transportation cost.

Not sure if this works for Canada though....

OK,

Ordered 5 boards of the 1.7 release. I probably need 2-3 myself, so I have 2 to give away... They should arrive 4 weeks from now.
PM me if you are interested.

For those who do are running out of PS2 keyboards, this cheap keyboard works with picomite VGA. It has slightly larger travel than the real laptop keyboard, and slightly heavier force required. But for the price, you can't beat it...

Make sure you order the PS2 version, not the USB version....

Thanks - that looks like a rather nice little keyboard. I'm not running out, but I might get one anyway as all mine have a numeric pad. I might have to live without UKP and pay everything in $ though. lol

Shipping is a little pricey.

JLCPCB was fast

Less than 2 weeks and the boards where in Netherlands..
And less that 2 hours later.......
Up and running...
Good thing that between 1.4 and 1.7 the location of the connectors was not changed, so I could mount the 1.7 board 1:1 in the case.

Thanks Peter !!

P.S. I have 2 board spare (1.7 version). PM me if you need one...

@Volhout:

Do you have a template for your pretty bezels? They look very professional!
I would have to make some for my housing as well...

Hi Frank,

The bezels came with the box (the G738A from Farnell). I just drilled some holes in it and filed (is that je right word ?..grinded ?) them to size.
I can "photocopy" them if you like, but I have no CAD files.

This would be something that SL6 might be good for. The front and rear plates could then be made as PCBs in your choice of solder resist colour with white or black screen printing. :)

Unfortunately they are too big to fit ito the 100x100 special offer size at JLCPCB.

For contrast I added orange paper...
The manual drilling and grinding causes damage to the visible surface, so I took some sanding paper to give the Aluminum a cleaner look.

Thank you very much!
I'm currently toying with the idea of laser cutting the appropriate parts out of plastic in our FabLab.

Question about the LM1117 LDO regulator: it's really a 1.8 V value? (The BOM says LM1117T-1.8/NOPB). Thanks!

Also, the SD card holders seem to be available again. The parts you can actually buy are the DM1AA-SF-PEJ(82). The DM1AA-SF-PEJ(21) on the BOM seems to be an older revision.

Looking forward to getting this running. I'll have to make a component run to pick up some 2R2 resistors and the right LDO. All I've got for regulators are 7805s or LD33Vs

3.3v regulator. Ld33v may work. 1.7layout is dual footprint.
