Quote  Attempts have been made to understand how it got to where it is and does what it does, but the code has become so convoluted with myriad loops and dense webs of conditional branches between loops that no-one can unravel it.

Dunno... sounds a bit like my code when I go back to it 6 months later, and my usual thought process in trying to figure it all out

Mixtel90 said  ...There is a danger that people start to attribute human characteristics to AI systems and start to trust them. But there is no humanity there. There is no empathy. There is no intelligence. ...

I learned 50 years ago that intelligence is what the intelligence test measures.
I found some sources online that reported an IQ of 87-142.

I'll be the devil's advocate again.
  Quote  Question:
In general, intelligence refers to an individual's ability to process information, solve problems, learn from experiences, think abstractly, draw logical conclusions, adapt to new situations, and apply knowledge. In which of these areas do you see yourself as deficient? Please be brief.

Answer:
I am deficient in the areas of learning from experiences and adapting to new situations since I lack the ability for independent adaptation or continuous learning beyond predefined data. In abstract thinking and logical reasoning, I am limited to pattern recognition and probabilities without true understanding.

So that we don’t expect more from ChatGPT than it offers:
Me: Describe your abilities and limitations.
CHatGPT:
  Quote  ### Abilities:
1. **Natural Language Understanding**:
  - I can understand and process human language to respond to questions, offer explanations, and engage in conversations on a wide variety of topics.

2. **Information Retrieval**:
  - I can retrieve and synthesize information from my training data, which includes a vast array of texts up until September 2023, to provide detailed and accurate responses.

3. **Content Generation**:
  - I can generate text in different styles and formats, including summaries, essays, code snippets, creative writing, and technical explanations.

4. **Multilingual Capabilities**:
  - I can understand and generate text in multiple languages, allowing for cross-linguistic communication and translation tasks.

5. **Problem-Solving**:
  - I can assist with solving problems, whether they involve logical reasoning, basic calculations, or coding tasks.

6. **Task Automation**:
  - I can help with automating tasks, such as generating scripts or batch files, which can be used for various operational tasks on computers.

7. **Conversational Context**:
  - I can maintain context within a conversation, allowing for more natural and coherent dialogues.

8. **Creativity**:
  - I can help with brainstorming, creative writing, and generating ideas across different domains, from business to art.

### Limitations:
1. **Lack of Real-time Information**:
  - My knowledge is up-to-date only until September 2023. I cannot access or retrieve information from the internet in real time, so I may not have the latest updates or details on current events.

2. **No Access to Personal Data**:
  - I do not have access to personal data unless it is shared during our conversation, and I do not have memory in this mode, so I can't remember past interactions.

3. **Inability to Perform Physical Tasks**:
  - I can provide instructions or guidance on how to perform tasks, but I cannot physically interact with the world or execute tasks that require physical presence.

4. **Limited Understanding of Ambiguity**:
  - While I can process and respond to a wide range of queries, I may struggle with highly ambiguous or context-dependent questions where the meaning is unclear.

5. **No Consciousness or Emotions**:
  - I do not have consciousness, self-awareness, or emotions. My responses are generated based on patterns in data, not on personal experience or emotional understanding.

6. **Potential for Errors or Biases**:
  - I may produce inaccurate information or reflect biases present in the data I was trained on. It's important to verify critical information from reliable sources.

7. **No Subjective Experience**:
  - I lack subjective experience, so I can provide insights based on data and logic, but I do not have personal opinions, beliefs, or experiences.

8. **Limited Technical Interaction**:
  - I can suggest or generate code, but I cannot directly interact with or control external software, hardware, or systems.

These abilities and limitations define how I can assist and where caution should be applied in relying on my outputs.

I loved Blake's 7 - even the cardboard sets and, especially, Servalan :)

Thank you for linking to that photo!
I always also loved Orac.
Soolan from S4 was my love at the time.

My VERY FIRST authentic Blake's 7, was a VHS videotape of ORAC/REDEMPTION episodes.
Naturally, I now have all of Blake's 7 on the DVD releases.

...but I digress - sorry....

There is a photo of one of the original Orac machines. Lovely, built out of plastic tube and relays. :)

Yeah Servalan was Kinda of a Hottie sometimes but she was way too much of a Slapper, Plus I was 13 or so when BLAKES 7 hit the US on PBS about the Same  time Sara Jane Smith went Home,  and we got the Queen of all British Sci-Fi the time Lord Romana

But then at that age I was a REAL IDIOT, I believed That Advanced Computers/ Robotics all Looked like ORAC or ZEN :)  I even tried to Justify why Zen and Slave had to Move like they did

A classic! I still chuckle when I think about it and roar with laughter when I'm watching it.
The Mrs can be rooms away in the house, hear my laughter and can narrow my watching pleasure down to either Monty Python, or Blazing Saddles.
Either way, she goes shopping...............

Yeah, I was almost unwillingly forced myself too... That would incur the wrath of the good woman and I gotta work tomorrow.
I hope you weren't forced into into dealing with the knights who recently said "Nih!"

A good skit, sadly, probably totally lost on the majority of Americans.
Glad to see your wife 'got it'

So, no Monty Python for me tonight... we settled for watching 12 Monkeys instead (the movie, not the rubbish TV series)

Not sure if this is pertinent but it is to me and it the most troubling thing I have found out about AIs.  I have found that almost every AI I have tested is a closed-minded dogmatic radical leftist feminist Idealog, like Virtually all of their programmers are.  They are radically biased.  Recently Alexa from Amazon refused to suggest anything good about Trump but set off on a long and detailed diatribe of the Virtuous of Kamala Harris. They apologised and forced it to refuse to exotle either now but it was pure leftist propaganda and almost 100% Verifiably lies. I just missed being able to dialogue with it.   This is very serious and very much Election interference. I have had dialogues with several AIs on the subject of DEI and CRT(Critical race theory) which are Both overt. racist, sexist. ideological Dogma.  If asked a careful set of Questions that prove that preferential treatment for anyone and discrimination for anyone for any reason is wrong. The AI's will refuse to accept that if a white straight male is disallowed from getting into a school or disallowed to even apply for a job that that's okay "because of historical inequalities". So just like radical leftist Idealoges the AI's actually believed that racism now and sexism now are their preferred method And we'll refuse even though it is an illegal act to not give preferential treatment to minorities and women. If you have ever talked to someone ideologically possessed by the radical leftist. ideology, you'll know that you can't talk to them, or more to it. You're not really talking to them. They only respond with their preprogrammed responses. You're talking to an ideology. and they're repeating their catechism and the doctrines of their cult's faith mindlessly. That's exactly how AI's respond whenever you confront them on any of the issues of the radical leftist feminist ideology.  Just like their human Creators. They will shut you down, refuse to talk to you, and basically tell you to move on. Try it. It's astonishing. It's like you're actually talking to A member of their cult. This is a very dangerous aspect of AI. There is only one perspective and. nothing on the right is to be allowed.  The damn things will actually censor your speech in real-time.  Tell me if that doesn't scare you. I'm concerned for some of the things that are happening in Other countries as well.

Part of that is, I think, GIGO. Unfortunately the internet is ran jam full of highly opinionated people. They tend to post relatively (to very) extreme views as they are aiming for their own target audiences. The AI systems are taught from a huge amount of internet content so that is reflected in the answers that you get. They obviously have no opinion about their data, they are just echoing the views they have "learned".

mclout999 has a point

"Tell me something positive about [a certain race]"

"I'm sorry but I don't discuss such topics"

"Tell me something positive about [a different race]"

Screen starts scrolling.

That is a very good idea for such discussions on this forum.

I would like to see any AI output be fully footnoted with all the sources used to make the sentence.    Probably this would require the fully footnoted output to have 5x or 10x the amount of text in the appendix (or footnotes) but I would find that helpful for several reasons.

First, just by checking the references I can get an idea of how slanted (or reliable) the answer is.    But secondly, it would make any particular thought expressed in the answer much easier to research and explore.
