matherp said  MMBasic V6.00.00b5 (just about to post) will now run on the Olimex

Just use

OPTION RESET OLIMEX
to setup the DVI port, the sdcard and the audio

They have selected stupid pins for the audio (not the same PWM channel) so bridge GP28 to GP26 to get stereo in MMBasic

I ordered olimex, £16.90 . mmy pico2 I solered pin headers, not like the photo

should I have used long lead female headers like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121744167815
like in your photo?
pimoroni where I got pico2 is now pre-order as pihut. farnell still got some, ordered 2
https://cpc.farnell.com/raspberry-pi/sc1631/raspberry-pi-pico-2/dp/SC21034
the headers https://thepihut.com/products/stacking-header-set-for-raspberry-pi-pico

It makes things easier if you want to connect other things, but it's not essential otherwise. It will still produce HDMI. The 10-pin socket gives you a few IO options. You will need to solder the link shown on Peter's photo to get stereo audio though. That can be on the bottom of the board if you like.

Available on the connector are:
PIN
1       3V3
2       GND
3  GP20 COM2 TX
4  GP21 COM2 RX
5  GP9  I2C SCL (with pull up)
6  GP8  I2C SDA (with pull up)
7  GP4  SPI MISO
8  GP7  SPI MOSI
9  GP6  SPI CLOCK
10 GP5  SPI CS

cool Mick. olimex thing will be so new and unknown to me. what's rgb 555 is my level.
so could use the pico2 with just pin headers.. thought about soldering female headers cos little cuts on every connection so maybe possible but rather do something else.
The frame thing is different with pico2 and 2040. it will be all new with dvi/hdmi.
do we still need the sound filter for audio as it's got 3.5 socket "audio?"

Using the stackable socket headers gives you more access to the GPIO pins, but the board will work equally well if your Pico has male pins on it. As I said though, you will need to add that link somewhere if you want stereo audio.

The video commands seem to be the same if you are using the same video modes. Obviously screen resolution can be different. Make sure you read Peter's notes.

There is a filter in the audio circuit, you don't need an external one. It looks like they've boosted the output a bit too, giving it a bit more current drive.

well i2c would be useful and if it's the usb hdmi firmware the 3  GP20 COM2 TX
4  GP21 COM2 RX to usb to ttl would work?
see when it arrives. £3.60 1st class rm. let you know, stan

Why not try GP8/GP9 for the console as usual? The pull up resistors are 2K2 but it might still work. The signals idle high so it just depends on how well they can sink 1.5mA - I suspect it will work fine. It would save having to make a special setup to move the console.

I2C SDA is also available on GP20 and I2C SCL is available on GP21, you just need to add your own pull up resistors (anything between 1K5 and 6K8 is usually fine. 10K is fine over short distances. 2K2 and 4K7 are common.)

Peter is aware of this thread (he is posting in it).

2350 720p

In the first post they have proof of 1280x720 at 30Hz (yes 30Hz, not 60). And they use PSRAM. In the end that would require a CPU clock of 186MHz. Which is well withing the capabilities of the chip (minor overclocking). So you have widescreen that can run on the PSRAM equipped pico's. Enough RAM to support RGB555 or even RGB888 on 1280x720. The Pico2 at 186MHz is on par with the 2040 ar 252MHz, so it is not running turtle speed.

This will be a mode that is very nice for control panel interfaces. Not for games. High resolution games are a bad match for pico anyway, since you simply have to process huge heaps of data. And it remains a simple ARM core. But nice graphics user interface, or nice photo frame, is well within reach.

Not sure how well the 30Hz standard is supported in TV's and monitors though.

I should get used to not being so cheeky! I can't afford more than 2/10 boards, says my wife!
