The $900 upgrade gets you the SB 1700 which unfortunately
is still a piece of sh!t.

Transformerless is the go.

An SB 3000TL can be had for $3000 and the Aerosharp is $800.

Spend the $2200 extra, and buy another $5K worth of panels.

The NU energy $1850 deal WILL be available here and there, there are now
several companies in that market (ie under $2500)

I'd just like to bump this thread and see what the current thinking is in regards to the 'best value' system's. Love to hear what's the thinking now.

Hey Tommy,
I have about 6 months decided that the NuEnergy deal in QLD was too good to pass up! I have installed a 2.52kW system comprising of 14 Suntech panels and a Fronius inverter... I paid about $8500 for it and I absolutely love it!!! My first powerbill with it installed minus about 19 days came to a grand total of $4.65 from about $275.00. So it would seem I have eliminated my power bill and stand to get a little something back from Ergon on the next bill... NuEnergy as a company was very good to deal with, they came to install the thing on the day promised, very professional install and I couldn't recommend them enough!!! A bit scary that the government is looking at reducing the feed in tariffs here in QLD because that will not help in motivating the people to get a system but oh well... I am reaping the benefits from the sun until it's changed!! Good luck on making a decision, it's not an easy one to do!!!

I have had NuEnergy install a 1.5KkW system and am very happy with them too. The installers were nice and did a good neat job.

They didn't do the meters, which I understood from the beginning, so I hired an electrician to change the meters. It takes a level 2 electrician to change meters. I am glad it is all finished now because of the floods, which did not cause me any problems, but will have consequences. There are thousands of houses and other buildings flood affected with the power turned off. Each must be inspected by a level 2 electician before they are allowed to reconnect. Level 2 electricians will be hard to book soon, being busy restoring power in flood affected areas, and this work will probably pay better than solar connections.

i'm getting the same system from the same mob and the private sparky wants $320 to change the power company supplied metter which wouldnt take long to change so their on very good $$$ just doing meter change overs per day,talk about protected species,im in the m/cycle/car trade where people can do their own repairs on something that can kill if they dont do a proper job and we are paid sh*te money compered to the protected trades

$320 is cheap. I paid $450+GST=$495 for the level 2 sparky to supply and install the new meter. He had to rearrange the contents of my meter box to make everything fit. I don't begrudge him his fee and he did a good job. $320 might be assuming there is room in your meter box and there may not be.

Mine got done for free... I thought it was something your energy provider was "supposed" to do for free. I consider myself lucky now!!

Hi Guys ,, I live in sth. Queensland and my energex linies did my meter change -over for free. They are a special crew ,2 of them and they told me they were doing 8 houses a day (I'm rural ,so they could be miles apart)..

Can the meter change be ordered in advance while you procrastinate on system setup, or does a system purchase trigger the meter installers?

Karl have you got a ~1.6Kw recommendation?

the meter change over was suposed to be $300 but my board is small and 2 items have to be moved,still cheap and would be paid for in 3 or less months [sis in blacktown has 1.5 system and saved $286 less cold season bill and $415 last bill all @ 60 cents a Kw] which ill be locked into as well.out of a township of 10.000 houses 1,800 households decided to take on the offer and we get more sun than our coastal cousins so how could you loose

Hi All

My little 1 KW system has contributed 1,253 KW over the last 12 months. it isn't big enough to be able to run the house on its own but it all helps, the biggest advantage was the solar HWS, over the 12 months compared to last year it saved 3,850 KW.

I am happy with the set up and improving it all the time now the metering is in place.

Now the 12 month test I wanted to do is over I will probably go back onto batteries and inverter, and just leave the power connected to the workshop.

Hi Guys,
I live in WA, Perth metro area, I rang Nu Energy for a quote, and after listening to their recorded "your call is important to us" for too long I left a message to call me. To be fair to them, I got a call the following day and asked them to give me a quote, "we don't have any assessors in that area" she said "but if you want to place an order we can have someone local to install it"
Me: "What, I'm in the Perth Metro area, you must have some one close"
She: "But that's in WA, but if you want to place an order I can arrange installation"
Me: "no thanks, have a nice day, goodbye"

I've since looked at some comments about Nu Energy on blogs and am now releived that I didn't continue with them.

I work directly with the installers who do ALL of NU energy's work.
A) they are great blokes
B) you will not find a more professional team
C) they are not the cheapest in the game (as far as cost of install goes)but
certainly up there with the best for quality.
D) I've seen 1.5KW systems (NU energy QSE panels) in full Perth sun turned on and crack out 1650W PAC.
this is almost unheard of as typically you get 0.8 of the rated output ie 1300W PAC tops.

All of that said we're selling through retravision on interest free finance 1.5KW is give or take $2600 which isnt bad at all and we're using good gear and NU's installers.
Given the free finance its very tough to beat (Quality of kit etc does count)
