Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I too would like to see a donate button. With a $1,$5,$10 choice. I play minecraft and donate $5 a month to the skyblock server I use. Now which service is the better one? I use Paypal for AliExpress both have had my back with returns/non deliveries. Quazee137 Geoff and Peter needs a button too. |

As a moderator, I would also be happy to pay into the ongoing survival of this forum. I guess it probably comes down to EASE OF PROCESS. Google Ads are pretty easy to setup, reasonably painless to get going, and can FOR THE MOST PART, be left to do their thing - and Glenn then gets a return on that to fund the forum operational costs. Once you start doing member subscriptions, there are a plethora of complications, such as additional tax-type crap, maintaining a database of current subscribers, chasing those who DON'T pay their subscription, dealing with disputes about payments, threats of cancelling subscriptions if a member does not get their way etc.... Not to be negative, but Google Ads are simple. Subscription management is not. That might be why Glenn is not so keen to take the forums "Private" in terms of funding. As I say - I'd be happy to pay into this also, but there are logistics involved here, which simply don't apply, if you use Google Ads. .....have I gone too far? (rhetorical!) Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Hi All, I also would be happy to pay some $$$ towards the upkeep of TBS. I think the problem is that this would work well initially (may even make more than the ads) but I fear this support would start to tail off after X months/years and Glenn would have to either constantly nag for money (Which I don't think is in his repertoire) or start the ads up again. I am happy to support Glenn with coffee donations AND keep the ads. Whilst I hate the ad that pops up from the bottom on every screen opening it is after all only one click to drop it down. The side ones don't worry me and I click on some of them from time to time. Regards, Mick (the big one) EDIT*** A big THANK YOU to Glenn for hosting TBS forum, without it MMBasic and 'mites in general would be lost. . I hate the idea of receiving donations. I host the site because its used, people get benefit from it. But this pops up every so often, people offering to send a little my way, and I've always refused. Looking at the typical figures, there would be 1 registered user for every 50 or so guests looking at the site at one time. Realistically, I could turn off the ads for registered users, turn back on those annoying popup ads for guests, ( they do earn good money, like $30 extra a month ), and the site would probably earn about the same ( About $90 to $170 a month ). So I'm thinking this. For members, on your "My Settings" page, you can turn off the bottom advert ( leaving those side ads running, I personally like those, usually something interesting ), or you can turn off all adverts. Up to you. The default setting will be all adverts off. You can also donate if you really really wanted to. Just remember a donation is no guarantee I would be polite to you, I'm getting very grumpy in my old age. I'll put a link somewhere to my PayID or Paypal. Give me a couple weeks. OK, some updates. As members have probably noticed, the adverts have gone. If you want the ads, you can turn them back on on your settings page. I did try to configure the ads to only display the side ads and exclude the bottom ads, but the google adsense code wont play ball. No matter where I placed the ad, it would still popup from down the bottom of the page. None members still see the ads. Added a couple Donate buttons where one of the ads went ( top, to the right of the home panel ). Used chat GPT to come up with something that sort of looks like me, "50 year old blond guy with goatee" gave the best results. Clicking on the image will take you to a Paypal page. Also added a placeholder there, where I'll add a news feed, and links to other sites that would be of interest to members. See a few members have already used the donate button. Thankyou Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Do you have a VPN running? That's usually what causes problems with these sorts of things for me. |

Hi Glenn, That is great. I have sent you a few `coffees' and it worked quite well. I know you really don't want to go down this path but maybe members can purchase a `custom' title or an enhanced one. To proudly show they are supporting TBS. Something to consider .. On another forum where I moderate members are requested to make a $20 donation to help and in return they get a blue jacket (the username) and access to a few private forum subjects. I don't think private forum subjects would suit this forum but the blue jackets yes I do think it could work si in all it's up to Glenn to decide. Regards Bryan |
