Hi All, I have been in contact with CaptainBoing aka Andrew, and he wants everyone to know that he is doing quite well, all things considered. He is terminal and he has already had several large operations and procedures, including removal of a kidney, and unfortunately they have detected that the cancer is still there. Andrew has decided that rather than go through all of the pain and ugliness of cancer treatment again he will play out his hand as it was dealt. He wants to enjoy life with his family and do that in, mostly, good health. His wife is not handling this very well, as one would expect, and his youngest son is angry that he wont fight it any more, but this is his choice and we all have to accept that. The way he described it he expects that he still has another 12 months of enjoyment left in this world and expects that most of that will be in reasonable health. He wishes everyone on TBS all the very best and hopes that the Fruit of the Shed can find another, more permanent home. I propose that when the FotS gets up and running again we have a credit to Andrew for the effort he put into it. Here's a few cheers to you Captain. Kind Regards, Mick (The big one) . It sounds like a good decision. Spending the time being happy doing what he wants to. He has been on TBS for years and was always a great contributor. Good on you Captain. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

Here's hoping that things work-out the way that they are with my buddy. -Diagnosed with stage-4 stomach cancer -Went in for stomach removed but didn't happen because they said it'd spread -Refused further treatment -Still has periodic scans and the "medical professionals" are amazed that not only is he still around but "the tumour hasn't grown" -Just went in for another scan and they claimed that it had grown and spread -He asked how much it had grown and they "didn't know" (!!!!!) -Asked to see the scans and they "didn't have them" (!!!!!) -Pushing and pushing for him to start treatment but he refuses -Looks/feels great Says that he smells a rat and seriously considering a second (private) consultation where he will only disclose his symptom of difficulty swallowing food. He didn't fall for the jab-nonsense that is reportedly causing "turbo-cancers" so who-knows. |

I share in both the sorrow for this turn of events and the admiration of The Captain's stoicism. I wonder if there might be merit in any "Fruit of the Shed" reborn being named "The Captain's Trove" (or some such) instead ? That's assuming it isn't just called the "MMBasic Wiki". I didn't know the captain as well as all you, but! Hats off to all of you for giving so much of your free time. I know you all like doing this and as soon as I retire ( yeah right ) I will be doing so much more to help out. I wish I could do more now, but when the time comes I'll help when I can. Just a suggestion Maybe you can add the "MMBasic" to the name, so Google will find it. I used Google (in the past) to try to find "Fruit of the shed", and it didn't find it at all. Volhout PicomiteVGA PETSCII ROBOTS |

Others may well have gotten much further, but I downloaded and unzipped the HTTRACK file of FOTS linked above, and grepped through the thousands of HTML files for my user name, lizby. There's a lot of cruft which I haven't looked into. 147 files were found, and 3 of them were for the pages I remember creating: "37 Sensor, 45 sensor kits", "Armmite F4 Hardware", and "PicoMite". When I enter the full path and file name into a browser, the pages come up and look perfect. Images are present. Links to thebackshed.com work. I'm not at all sure how to separate the wheat from the chaff, but the pages look recoverable with some effort. I don't know how much it can be automated, or what would need to be done to put it into a community github wiki. The fruitoftheshed.com folder in the HTTRACK download contains 16,384 files. ~ Edited 2024-01-13 03:13 by lizby PicoMite, Armmite F4, SensorKits, MMBasic Hardware, Games, etc. on fruitoftheshed |

Thanks for the update Mick. Heartbreaking, but I also understand his reasoning for not going through chemo. Hopefully we will keep his spirit alive here. Yes. I love this idea. |

Can anyone point to examples of what a re-based FOTS might look like on a github wiki? Instructions on how to set up a github wiki show a "wiki" item: But my github repository doesn't have that: (Note: if somebody else has a start on this, I don't want to step on any toes, and would be happy to follow on a trail someone else has already broken.) Hi folks, Temporarily got a < 100% functional static copy of fruitoftheshed.com up: https://thwill1000.github.io This is not a Wiki this is a quick and dirty static clone, I think it probably contains all the old content. Note that I DO NOT want to be the custodian of this long term* but I thought it better to bring it up than not. * And possibly The Captain would rather I wasn't either depending on whether his view of me had mellowed since his initial interactions with an annoying young(ish) whippersnapper. Go to the Settings for that repository, in the General->Features section check the "Wikis" box. Best wishes, Tom Game*Mite, CMM2 Welcome Tape, Creaky old text adventures |

Thanks, Tom. I had to change the repository from Private to Public to enable the Wiki. And here I had hoped to keep my fumblings to myself. PicoMite, Armmite F4, SensorKits, MMBasic Hardware, Games, etc. on fruitoftheshed |

Excellent, Tom. I think this has the majority of the Capt's code submissions. However, if I click the dropdown list at the top right by "Welcome, Guest, you are in:", after selecting a line, I get a 404. I have to admit that navigation to other areas than the Main Page always confused me. Clicking "All Pages" does not, in fact, give you all pages in FOTS--it gives you all pages within the subsection you are in--Main Page or GCB or Armmite. Also, some images are absent. Even a static version will preserve the valuable insights and code. Terrific work. I'm sure I could have stumbled for weeks and not achieved this. It helps to have a vision of what may be accomplished. PicoMite, Armmite F4, SensorKits, MMBasic Hardware, Games, etc. on fruitoftheshed |

Yup, that is to be expected as it "calls" a .aspx file which (a) I don't have from the HTTRACK copy, and (b) is a file that runs on the ASP server which isn't present. Can you provide a specific example? I would have thought they should be present, but I never made much use of FoTS so I don't really know what is missing and what is not. Also whilst some of the .zip files work, the one for the legacy MMBasic Code Library seems to be corrupt: https://thwill1000.github.io/fruitoftheshed.com/MMBasic%20Libraryfa2a.zip Best wishes, Tom Game*Mite, CMM2 Welcome Tape, Creaky old text adventures |

For no particular reason I had happened to look here: https://thwill1000.github.io/fruitoftheshed.com/MMBasic.Backpack-Tracker-curve-tracer.html There are several clickable links with the text of "Image". I had thought that meant a missing image on FotS, but when I click on it, I get a FotS page saying "Page not found", so this may not differ from what you would have gotten on FotS before Jan 1. In particular, it's good to have Gerry's LCD Panels Summary PicoMite, Armmite F4, SensorKits, MMBasic Hardware, Games, etc. on fruitoftheshed |
