Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

G'Day Guy's, While using this puter I did find it was cutting out and kept doing a reboot Can't have that for a cnc puter can we Anyway I went into the control panel and found the setting that was causing the problem so set it to never and that did fix the cut outs. So got every thing already to setup then thought just how much are these parallel port cards and $15 click and collect well time to give that a go I reckon just to see if my old controller still works. Cheers Bryan |

Well in order to open poida's bom files I do need office10 so I can load up excel to see the files. Found a cracked ISO of office10 but the problem came as it's been that long ago since I ran out of DVD-R disks burning the ISO will have to wait. Any this morning got on to feebay and bought a PCI parallel card that does come with a install disk so I can see if I can get my old cnc controller working. Also keep getting that non activated message popping up and doing a search it does look like winsucks won't even allow win7 to be activated With the Ethernet connected to the wifi router on downloading I have seen 3.5mB download speed but when I'm running the cnc I reckon no net connection will be the best. I do intend to upgrade the ram to the max so the box will go into my computer store I use and get the ram upgraded to the max the motherboard can handle and eh they might just sort out this activation problem too. down the cracked ISO path lies but torments and insanity. but there is another way. LibreOffice can open just about any file format that Microsoft Office can generate, with (dare i say it) near 100% compatibility in opening MS Word and Excel files. LibreOffice is open source and completely free, with versions available for Linux (including RPi), macOS (the operating system formerly known as OS X) and Windows. It is a high quality piece of software, as polished and feature-complete as Microsoft Office. you can download LibreOffice from here: https://www.libreoffice.org/ Bryan: you running Linux on your main computer, yes? most major Linux distros come with LibreOffice already bundled. just start typing 'excel' or 'word' at the start menu and it will find the pre-installed LibreOffice equivalent. for Windows and macOS (and Linux if not already installed) it is a simple click on the LibreOffice website to install. what variety of Linux are you using? ie, Mint, Ubuntu, PuppyLinux, etc. or if not Linux then Windows, macOS, or something else? cheers, rob :-) Edited 2023-04-07 23:48 by robert.rozee |

Are you running W7 32-bit? If not Mach3 won't run. Note there is a registry patch you need to do to run (google "Mach3 win 7 crashes") W7 32-bit only supports 4Gb memory so don't buy more than that it won't work I have it working perfectly using a Startech PCI1P LP card You can buy W7 licences here very cheaply - activated perfectly first time for me. You can buy valid MS Office licences equally cheaply if you search Edited 2023-04-08 00:11 by matherp |

these will be full non-expiring licenses? a friend of mine has been caught out THREE times over recent years buying full non-expiring licenses for MS office as part of computer laptop bundles (2 were brand new laptops, the other a reconditioned unit). each time from brick-and-mortar retailers, who assured her that it was a legitimate full non-expiring license, NOT just a subscription. every time, a year later she came to me asking why the license had suddenly expired and she was being asked to sign up for a yearly office365 subscription to be able to continue accessing her documents. now, perhaps this is a scam unique to new zealand retailers... but is the reason i now always tell people to steer well clear of MS office. i have yet to see anyone receive a proper non-expiring MS office license. cheers, rob :-) Edited 2023-04-08 01:20 by robert.rozee |

Yes but you need to buy a version with the year in the title. I'm currently using Microsoft Professional Plus 2019 Cost me about GBP40 but you can get much cheaper for older versions |

You have now. I purchased Microsoft Office Home & Student 2021 from a large local retail chain and haven't been 'converted' to 365 rentals. I sometimes wish I had stuck to Office 2003. I hate the new interface. I did have to finally sign up to a Microsoft account to download the software. Now MS occasionally complain that I have not logged in. Only occasionally and I simply ignore their advances. Jim VK7JH MMedit MMBasic Help |

G'Day Guy's, I am using the 64 bit Win7 as that was the original valid disk I had here back from the day I built a 24 volt DC computer for under a grand. With my Linux I just use mate as when the hard drives on my house desktop and shed laptop died trying to install Win7 resulted in it saying the hardware doesn't support the OS. So without a house computer I rang a mate and he burnt me a dvd of mint to get me going and that was a few years ago. Matherp I did do a google search and straight up came this https://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php?topic=38269.0 So I will do that before I even start Mach3 and hopefully it will work first time. Cheers Bryan |

No mention of 64bit W7. Mach3 will run OK on 64 bit versions but the parallel port driver needs 32bit versions of Windows. I could do the design work in the comfort of my office on W10 64bit and then transfer to the W7 32bit in the shed for the production side of things. Good luck with your setup. Mach3 can't run under W7 64-bit if you use a parallel I/F. It may if you use something like Smoothstepper Edited 2023-04-08 16:59 by matherp |

This is the USB controller I got also got 3 off DM556 micro stepper boards, now as these boards have enable pins and the controller board doesn't I can wire it up to 12 volts and use a toggle switch. This PCI board should be here later in the week so I'm going to try that first. Cheers Bryan |

G'Day Guy's, Got a fair bit of wiring done with the micro stepper boards and the control board and found the datasheet for those stepper drives where they say for 24 volts a 2K resistor should be put in for the P and D data lines. A search thru my gear didn't find any 2K resistors so I'll have to get some this week. Anyway as I did have Win7 going I plugged in the control board and sure enough via USB the driver was found and installed So nearly there for the big test to see if this works and one thing I did find in the help file for this CNCUSB software a direct link to PlanetCNC on the CNCZone web forum. So hopefully this week the first movement of this cnc in well over 10 years. Cheers Bryan |

Bryan Hope this goes well for you. I gave up on that USB controller as electrical interference from the spindle and/or steppers and/or other electrics in the workshop (compressor?) occasionally killed the USB transmission and stalled the cut. Hopefully you won't see the same. |

Well for 24 volts that will be coming straight from my shed battery a 10 + year old 24 volt 735AH one so little to know noise from that. now from what I learnt today that controller I bought was first made back in '15 and looking at newer ones which aint much more than I paid for does look to have a heap more features. One thing I want to setup as the function is there in the software is the camera function and I'll make up a probe so it can scan items and convert it straight to g-code. |

G'Day Guy's, Well that constant popup telling me to activate was getting on my nerves so went and did a google search and found a one line command to turn the damm thing off. So just changing the value of a DWORD from 2 to 4 did the trick as 2 is always on and 4 is disabled Downloaded LibreOffice and it did crash a few times then I started it using admin after reboot and it fired up fine where I could take a look at each program without any crash. Went for drive thru Mt Barker find find those 2K resistors and every store I used in the past is gone and part of history. So the fun goes on. Cheers Bryan |

Well while I was away at work that PCI Parallel port card turned up and yep a ching special with only 32 bit drivers So I've rewired up my CNC with the old controller and the board does light up just like old so fired up Mach3 only to find it completely hang so a reboot was needed then on restarting up no net connection and point blank no access to the wifi card that worked before. So I do really think this project of getting winsucks to drive a CNC is dead in the water and now it's time to bog down and learn LinuxCNC as with the PCI card connection won't be an issue. |

Mach3 works perfectly on a modern computer IFF You install W7 32-bit Patch the registry as per the Mach3 site Set the correct address for the parallel add-in card in Mach3 It really isn't difficult but it won't work if you try anything but the above |

Well that win7 is gone and never to been again and LinuxCNC is installed so I'll continue this in my cnc build thread. |
