I have also used VueScan. Many years ago, I had a printer scanner that Widows did not support, so loaded VueScan and it worked a treat.
I gave up on widows many years ago and just use Linux. It seems to be able to find printers, print with them with no problems at all.
I have an ancient Canon IP 4200, the only problem I find is that it does not like printing Pdf files from emails, If I save them to the hard drive they print fine.
I don't have a scanner anymore, I just photograph files if I need to and print them to pdf.
