I was happily assembling some E64 modules, and I was a bit too hasty with the SMD resistor drawer. They went f-ing EVERYWHERE. All through my shirt and pants, socks - anywhere there was a ripple of clothing they could settle in. Luckily, I have a wooden floor in the workshop, so gathering them all up off the floor - once I had shaken them all out of ME - was reasonably painless. But I thought I would just make sure that if any of you Aussies over there heard thunderous profanity from the sky today......that would have been me. I'm thinking about just binning the lot. SMD film resistors are only a fraction of a cent each, and to try to sort out this mess, I think would drive me insane. I could just order a few hundred more of all three of these values from element14. I probably have other values or MLC's that I need to stock up on anyway, so..... Smoke makes things work. Sorting those things are what apprentices are for.😯 I had a boss that brought in a young kid to help in the shop. He told him to take the box of miscellaneous screws/washers/jumpers and other junk that sat on the bench and sort it all out. Took forever and the poor kid quit when he finished. Didn't blame him. Nice advice, but I am the owner/operator, so it's me or no-one! At this stage......no-one! Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

They cost near to nothing. Trash them, and buy new oned. May cost you 5 dollar, and saves you 4 hours of work. Volhout PicomiteVGA PETSCII ROBOTS |

@Grogster I keep my small stuff in used pill containers ( at my age I have lots LOL) or at the very least a zip lock bag. Just a suggestion. Hans ... |

I tend to agree with Volhout. I have one of those multi-drawer parts rack thing-y's. There are three compartments per drawer, and I have glued the partitions in place so they can't move and allow the SMD to mix. The problem was I lost my grip on the drawer, when I was in the process of putting it back in the holder thing-y. My attempt to grab it, may have in fact made it worse, as I hit the drawer rather then just letting it fall. That probably made the explosion of SMD resistors as bad as it was. I'm very aware NOT to drop my SMD parts drawers when I have them out to get bits from, but this time, fate and Murphy was against me! Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

The 0805 components (and a few bigger) that I have are in their cardboard strips in one of those "sample books". I don't need to get any sort of quantity though. They can still reach escape velocity with only the pressure from a pair of tweezers though. :( Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

You got what I would have if I was using SMD's when Boo though she was helping. I still haven't got them all sorted being a bit laz....y. Quazee137 needs AI with a parts placement arm to do the sorting. Yours look like a harder task Edited 2024-02-21 10:05 by Quazee137 |

My wife says that if you send her the mixture she'll sort them out for you, Grogs. She likes sorting things. She's useful for getting the knots out of fine chains too. :) (I'm not sure how serious she was, but it's quite possible she meant it!) Thank your wife for the generous offer, but I have indeed just ordered more, along with a few other values and MLC's I was getting low on anyway. But that is a lovely offer from her, but I don't think I would put anyone else through the pain required. Even if I HAD an apprentice as mentioned above! Smoke makes things work. Hi Mick (not the Big one), How is your missus at getting knots out of fishing line? I have 73 years of line she can untangle - only kidding . . . Andrew Edited 2024-02-22 17:31 by Andrew_G |

I don't know... Her late dad used to do a lot of fishing so it wouldn't surprise me if she was an expert in the matter. :) Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

All sorted - it only took about a month..... I know I said I was just gonna order more, but I decided to do about 30-mins per night, sorting these, while I listened to various podcasts. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

It wasn't as painful as I first thought, PROVIDED that you DON'T try to sort them all in one sitting. Just half an hour or so every time I felt like doing some, and you eventually churn through them all. Now - NEVER spill your SMD again, Graeme...... Smoke makes things work.
