quick question I ran across a good deal on two ProWatt 3000/5000 surge inverters the problem is they take a 12v input I want to run a 48v battery bank or at least 24volt (haven't bought batteries yet)I know there will be some power loss in the reduction BUT is it safe to use a Voltage reducer form the 48v battery to the 12v inverter? I know power wise it should work but I'm worried that a continuous draw through the reducer may be a issue ............ has anyone else done this??? planing for these two inverters to handle 60% or so of my homes load then leave the big stuff still on the grid for now but they would still get some heavy use I don't want to pass up the deal at this price if it is safe to do  |

The problem is the reducer would need to handle some serious amps. If you wanted to draw 3000 watts from the ProWatt inverter, then it will need 250 amps at 12v 
I don't think you will find a reducer that could even come close to that sort of current. You would be better off rearranging your battery bank as a 12v supply instead of 24 or 48 volts. A better option would be purchasing a 48 volt inverter. At 3000 watts, it would be drawing 62 amps, much less than as 12 volt inverter.
