Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I had the original .pdf file with schematic and component list from the internet, don't remember from where exactly. I still have it but I have to see on which DVD... I printed it on paper some time ago with the intent to start building it... Is a DC to DC converter for a laptop connected to a 12volt battery. My solar battery is 12V and this converter is what I need because I have many devices on 12V. I did the pcb design, hope is useful for others. I can't offer guaranties, don't know if is working but I started building it anyway... 2011-07-16_005641_DCtoDC.zip Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

Errata: The diode D1 is MBR1645. I had to find a footprint with TO220 case and forgot to change the value. Sorry! The diameter of the L1 is 10mmm, on ferrite. But you can buy a transformer case for it, ETD29 model, vertical position (I have horizontal). It have a special ferrite for it (it come in two pieces - I bought one piece/half by mistake). I will put pictures for reference. You need one of this. Mine is horizontal - good enough but ugly: And two of these. Resistors: R1 = 5k6 R2 = 51k R3 = 9k1 (9.09K) R4 = 1M R5 = 4k7 R6-R8 = 15k R7 = 27k R9-R10 = 6k8 R11 = 10K R12 = 100 ohms Capacitors: I think notations on schematic are clear All non polarized capacitors are "caramel" type, 5mm distance between pins: Others: Two cooling radiators SK104 STC or STS for TO220, 38.1 mm: SK104STC 11K/W 38,1mm Fischer TO220 RoHS Vasi Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

Yasi, I built a DC-DC for same reason. I used a monolithic IC - much simpler design. See below for files. My DC-DC Project LT1070 Series PDF LT1170 Series PDF LT1170 Series Design Notes PDF LT1070 Series Inductor Selection PDF It should work ...in theory |

I found the footprint for a horizontal ETD29 transformer so I did the PCB for this. 2011-07-17_022414_DCtoDC_H.zip Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

Thank you sPuDd, yours ia indeed much simpler and is tested so I'll recommend it. Unfortunately for me, I have already all components for the other and I can't find LT1170 on the two online stores where I have access: http://adelaida.ro http://adelectrocom.ro Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

What program you used to render such image? I ask because I like it, I see it appropriate in illustrating documentations and tutorials. Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

Vasi, I used PCB Wizard 3.50 Pro Unlimited, be warned it has some incorrect parts errors, and other bugs/issues. Yes it was a nice pretty program, but at a price... There's a good chance you can get free samples of the LT1170 from Linear Technology. There is also the LT1268 which is a 150Khz 7.5A version of the same thing. It should work ...in theory |

Hi vasi and Spud This is cheaper than buying the components but not as interesting. Ebay Item number: 120636716321 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120636 716321&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_2258wt_916 Bob Foolin Around |

Hi sPuDd, thanks for the info, I will take a look... Hi Bob, thanks, that is a nice little unit, good to have the schematics Vasi Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |
