Hi , I've a Telecom salvaged ups ,2000 watter ,big fella. But the problem is that it runs from a 96 v battery source.
Seeing I've set up for 24v ,is there anyway I can get this thing to run off my 24 v bank , I don't really want to string 8 X12 v batts together if I can do it some other way ----
Any clues

Hey Bruce.

I dont think you would be able to run the UPS on a lower voltage. Chances are the transformer would be wound for 96 volts, and wont work on anything less.

I can get them new from one of my suppliers. What size would you want?? Available in 250w, 500w, 750w, 1000w, 1250w, 1500w. Other sizes also available on request. Let me know what size, & I will get a current price for you.

Thanks Trev. I'd be interested in the 1000 watt unit , but at what price ???
I've not seen many of these dc-dc converters around ,at that voltage??.

It would be nice to get these (2) ex-telecom ups's working ,they are in perfect condition.

I might have to set up a 96v-dc batt bank for them- and be carefull--

hi bruce ever thought of joining two apc 1400va ups together? they have 960 watt output and if you startered both of them together on mains theyed be in syc with each other and be cheaper and less losses than a step up setup what do you think gizmo can we do these things without blowing our selfs up?

You could get them fired up ok, but once you remove the mains they would free-run - and betchya london to a brick they would drift over time and it would all be verrrry ugly.

(Tears before bed-time, and I don't know anyone ever managed to get the magic smoke back into those things!)

hi Ross thanks for the words of wisdom ill try to keep the magic smoke in and reseach another brand of 24volt ups of bigger capacity,any ideas anyone?

G'day Ross do you mean the sine wave will drift, causing a high on one inverter and a low on the other after time?
I remember looking at a web page on one inverter where you could piggyback the units to increase output(factory spec). I can't remember what brand it was.

Yes guys, thats exactly what I mean.

In "free-running" mode (ie, not synchronised to the mains) they are not "locked" to anything and inevitably drift. Sure, not much, but over time it will get pretty ugly!

There are various UPSs about which have a "synchronising cable" available as an option - its usually just a small flat ribbon cable that goes between the controller boards. One UPS is set up in "master" mode, the other(s) in slave, and since they are now all run off the same master clock, they should all run in the same phase relationship.

Hi Bruce,
After the long ( when your waiting, it is), Christmas/new year break, the supplier is open again.

The 1000w dc-dc converter is out of the q'. Over $2000 + Johnnies share.

Cotek pure sinwave inverters are better priced.
