I found this meter (very good condition) in one of my many plastic bits and pieces boxes .... I think it will be good for a amperage meter in and out of my big time inverter --2Kw-16Kw peak ,,not that i'll ever get up near there.. Neat looking meter ,double click to enlarge .. I moved the post into the electronics section for you Bruce. Thats a nice meter. I like the old meters, I had one I picked up from my days with Telecom, it was a db meter, ended up converting it to read amps.

Bruce, as we discussed in IRC the other day - I think that movement might be excellent for your amps gauge, using one of the 3m battery cables as the "shunt". In order to make it useful, you need to know what its FSD current is. I'd start out with a high value resistance and a low voltage source and see if you can get a small kick out of the meter. It *MAY* be a +/- 50uA movement which would be ideal. If it is, a 330K resistor in series from a 12V supply should give you about 36uA - or 3/4 deflection. Tweek resistors until you get exactly FSD (If it does give you 3/4 movement with 330K, I'd then use a 100K pot and a 220K resistor, adjust for full scale, then measure the resistance) With that, you can easily work out the "calibration" resistor you need. Given we already worked out your battery cables of 3m of 50 sq mm cable have a resistance of 0.001 ohms :) |

Glenn,, Thank you for moving the post .. The 12yo johnny walker may have had something to do with it ..Oh, was 12yo old 10 years ago ,first drop in 10 years ,so I've been a good boy for a while . Rob,, Ross is helping me ,He,We, thinking on the upside,,I'm using 50mm cables.. Ross, As everything you do ,thanks for the perfection points. Have 3 different types of these zero metering meters, this one is most attractive,a very 1967 German precision excellantly build't model .. Thanks all , but too wet and cold up here in Mt. Tamborine to stay under the house ,,will wait for sunny dry weather,next year , if we are lucky.. Bruce Bushboy |
