Hi,
Has anyone had trouble with the 433.92 MHz data transmitters and receivers?

I have recently bought 2 sets of the TX & RX modules. The RX module has a small red trimmer on one side.
This is the module I am having trouble with.
Previously I have used the Jaycar 433.92 MHz modules with great results.
The Jaycar ones have a crystal on one side and is a much better looking module.

In the photo the New RX is the top module, and the Jaycar style module is in the centre, the TX module is at the bottom.
The TX is the same for both receivers.





I took 2 circuit boards into Jaycar with working TX & RX modules onboard to show the operation, then plugged their current model modules in and all worked fine with either transmitter, but nothing would talk to the modules with the little red trimmer on it.
Today I returned the new modules ( with red trimmer) to where I bought them and they could offer no solutions.
While there we opened a kit supplied by Altronics and their RX module looked simular to the ones with the red trimmer (also had red trimmer) but the inductor next to the trimmer was through hole style, where as the shop ones that I had were a smd inductor.
The receiver from in the kit worked fine with all transmitters same as the Jaycar ones and the ones I had previous.
The problem is with the new receivers not the transmitters.
I suspect a bad batch of receivers or there has been a mix up with the type of receivers
As there is no part numbers or code stamped on these thing anywhere except pinouts.

I am wondering if anyone else has had simular problems with 433.92 MHz, RX & TX modules and have any solutions to offer.
I have returned the modules now but still interested if others have had any trouble with these.

One thing I noticed looking at some of the article’s that Silicon chip has used them in, and there is an error with their pcb’s and schematics. They tie the digital data pin and the lineal data pin together. This is Wrong!!
The 2 pins should not be connected together.
If you have ever built one of SC, projects using the 433.92 MHz modules (or copied their lay out ) and it didn’t work then this maybe why.
I had a look in the Altronic kit today to see if they have changed it, but no they just put a errata in there saying cut the track or chop the lineal pin off.

Hi Pete,

The RX units I have are different again, even though the TX unit looks the same. My Battery voltage indicator RF linked is still working well. Many months now without lockup. Ocasionally loses data and has to re-sync.

It is a pain when the components keep changing. Interchangable parts aren't, Murphy once said.

Hi Gordon,

What are the TX & RX modules you have and what sort of distance do you get out of them?

Have you or anyone else posted a circuit for wireless data logging to a pc.

I also left a message for you on the thread about pcb's
if you are interested in putting a doc together on smd.
