Just put one of the charge controllers together and having some trouble. As soon as I apply power, the R1 12k frys. It all looks good, no dead shorts or connections crossed. Using 1/4 watt resister, don't know if that is correct or not. thanks for any help.

Thats a 12 ohm resistor, not a 12k ohm. It should be brown red orange gold/silver ( the last one is the tollerance )

Ok so what colour is your 3.3k. I'm thinking it must be wrong too to be able to smoke the 12 ohm above it.

I'm trying to find the parts to put one of these together (24 volt version) and I have found everything but the DB139. I have tried several searches for it and subs but haven't found it. Everything else I have found at newark.com

Can anyone tell me where to find it? Or a sub I can use?

Thanks

Timbo try this place they seen to have everything under the sun. http://www.mouser.com/ And timbo its a BD139 not a DB, I think its a miss print on the veroboard layout. Also the R1 12k on the veroboard layout is marked as a 10k, I think this is correct but Im a Newbie to, maybe some one with more know how got confirm is.

The sections of the opamp are transposed too. 1/4 and 2/4 are swaped on the layout. It dosn't matter apart from creating confusion .

Thanks for the help. Now with the correct part # I found everything I need at Newark for about $14.00.

Any idea what kind of power this will handle? From looking at the scematic it looks like the relay needs to be able to handle the power. I hope to get 500W out of my generator so I better be sure I have 40A relay.

It works! Amazing what happens when you use the right parts. Thanks for the help, next thing is to hook this up to my turbine and start charging batteries.

Hey Russell, happy to hear it. You got to watch those resistor color codes. The 5 band resistors are a real nightmare.

Timbo the output is limited by the relay, your right. The BD139 will drive a typical 12v spot light relay, anthing bigger and you could use a smaller relay to switch a bigger relay.

Can ya post the link to the controller info you used? It sounds like a relativly simple circuit you designed...
Don't you think Free/Renewable energy should be mandatory in new buildings?
