Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I am hoping to hear what experiences others have had with inverter/chargers.

I am looking at a Invertek model from Jaycar that can supply up to 3KW sine wave continuously and up to 9KW that for short periods. It also acts as a 70 amp 24 volt charger, and a regulator for solar panels.

Where it really has got my interest is the other things it can do. Mainly that it can start and stop a generator as needed(I have a 11 KVA Lister Petter with auto start/stop) If the batteries are getting low the generator can be started but this can be disabled at preset times of the day unless the batteries are getting very low then it will startup at any time.

Also if the load on the inverter gets above a preset level it will start the generator and either switch (less than 10MS) to generator power or use the generator to boost the Inverter's output. Then when the generator is not required it will shut down the generator after a preset delay period.

It has other functions as well but these are the ones that I want. I see there are some others out there with similar capabilities. Is there any of you guy's using anything like this and what are your experiences with them?

There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't.
