Had an old Compaq flatscreen LCD monitor kicking about for around 10 years. Noticed input was 12v DC 2Amp. Though I would mod it, so Today I cut the cable off and rigged it into my 12v system to fire it up and it did. Have not connected to PC yet as I need a male to male VGA adapter for cable converting. Not even ran it for 5 minutes yet, but has fired up, thought to jump on here and ask if there is anything I should watch out for or add to this to keep this monitor operating as it should? At the moment I have it running direct of the main line from my solar regulator with only a 2amp fuse on the monitor line. Is this going to last long or am I going to experience problems over time? How do I go about this, as I feel it is a bit too easy and might be missing something? Cheers! (Currently keen and interested while enthusiastic and motivated) Link to a pic here---> Compaq 1501 LCD PC Monitor Wanting to run a small screen laptop through it as I have the car charger for it on 12v, and the Compaq monitor is 15inch which would enable me to run splitscreen E.C.T via Solar D.C. and increase screen size. Just a thought! Forgot to add, I gather the monitor won't like the battery voltage dro, i am concerned it will damage the monitor. Thinking I might need something with low power shut off and cn feed a good constant voltage with less fluctuation. Have seen the screen flickering a little but hard to say if it is volltage related as I have some dodgy wiring rigged at the moment an probably some unstable cable connections. Update...... Cleaned up the wiring so it is stable. I am now typing this post on the monitor in splitscreen running off solar. Just a 2 amp fuse on the line for protection which is fine for spikes. Wondering what happens when the battery flattens? Any Ideas? Guess I will find out sure enough tonight after sundown. Great weather for solar Today. Maxing out my system and still power to burn. Cant complain! 
One other question.... Compaq was bought out by HP at the time this monitor came out. I have used the same monitor with HP branding on another computer (Compaq/HP). Practically identical monitors, just rebadged. Can anyone tell me if the model number is the same on the front of the HP version monitor, or did they change this? (Thinking someones sitting at comp reading this through one of the above?) Cheers!
