In the Feburary 2012 edition of Silicon Chip magazine there is a very well written article by Nenad Stojadinovic about using the F&P Smartdrive as a motor.

Driving the F&P as a motor is a common question here on the forum, but we've never had a good solution. Nenad has found it, using a BLDC motor controller. The article also mentions re-wiring the F&P to give more power at lower voltage.

thebackshed.com gets a mention too, which is great

Hi Glenn

Haven't been able to get the article yet but was looking at some model outrunner 3 phase motors I have and I believe the driver 80 amp at 18 volts would be a basis for a controller as a fet driver to run the motor.

What do you think of that, it would make a useful motor in the workshop in a lot of applications.

All the best
