Hi, I've reciently joined the forum after lurking for a couple of years.

The search for a small efficient 48V inverter led me here after not finding much in the commercial world.

As a life long diy person, I was looking for a way to use my diy e-bike batteries (48V and 1.5KWH total) for home power backup to run the refrigerator, charge phones, and run small appliences during power outages.

That rabbit hole has provided much education, entertainment, and many interrelated projects.

As background, I have reciently retired from a 45 year career at a well known test and measurment company based in Beaverton Oregon. Over the years the tasks have ranged from ocilloscope calibration and troublshooting, engineering technician work on new products, production floor computer support, equipment maintenance, and the art of keeping IC handling equipment from the late 70's 80's and 90's working without outside support (companys out of business for many years...).

Lifelong diy hobbies of anything that looked interesting.

Currently working on an add on circuit for eg8010 / egs002 based inverters with a 3V feedback node to make the inverter play well with an inverter generator.

Project is based on a arduino nano sampling the ouput current from the inverter generator and adjusting the voltage out of the inverter to control the current drawn from the inverter generator.

The inverter is the master and the inverter generator provides the sync.

Basic current control is working good. Enable charger mode and dial up the generator load. In my system the current delivered to the batteries is real close to 2x the AC current draw from the generator.

Now trying to see I can write code to allow CC/CV operation of the inverter / inverter generator combo. Dial up the desired charge current and battery cut off voltage and have the system act like a regular lithium battery charger.  

I will do a seperate post(s) with details of that project.

Thats probably enough drivel for one sitting...

Great to see more people from the US on the forum.  Especially one who worked in T&M (Tek?) with hopefully some nice equipment and tips to share.  Look forward to hearing more about your project (paralleling inverter and generator?).  In case you didn't know, there is already a great inverter project (nanoverter) on the forum that is supposed to be able to sync to grid/generator in parallel.  So, you may want to check it out.

Thanks for the welcomes.

What I find most impressive is the depth of knowledge and the test and mesurement skills shown in this forum. The lack of ego and bitching is a refreshing change from so many sites.

Yes, Tek was the place. Most of my test equipment is quite old. I added a Sigelent SDS 1104X-E scope to the bench to get some modern features about a year ago. Had to upgrade some equipment before retiring...

Also have a Tek TDS 220 100Mhz 1GS 2 chanel scope and a TDS 460A 400Mhz 100Ms 4 chanel scope for higher frequencies. The down side to the 460A is the low sample rate. Anything fast needs to be a repetitive signal so equivalent time mode can build the waveform.

I've been following the various nanoverter projects with great interest.

One project came from a "rabbit hole" question someone asked maybe 1.5 years ago about the possibility of using the torroid based voltage converter transformers sold on Ebay.

I picked up a VEVOR ST-3000VA voltage converter. Currently in the US they are avaliable for $69.89 on ebay with free shipping.

Doing my typical project of putting 10 pounds of stuff in a 5 pound bucket, was able to mount the transformer on edge and wedge in a 4 MOSFET ali express inverter and get full metering squeezed into the box also.

It's capable of putting out 2000W continous @ 83% efficency. 1000W comes in at 91%. Idle power is less than 10W. Not bad for an inverter that weighs in at 24.3 pounds (11 Kg).

I'll put together a post of how it was constructed and the mods done to the Chinaverter.

Hi Gary, another belated welcome to the Forum. TinyT another BSer from USA has a TDS220 I think - I have one also, reckon it was one of my best purchases ever. Bought it ~ 1995 & it is still a bloody good cro/workhorse and without all the bells and whistles to complicate usage, its an analog CRO on steroids.
If at first you dont succeed, I suggest you avoid sky diving....

Welcome Gary.
I don't know if you go far back to know the Tek 453. That was the workhorse 'scope we use during my servicing days in my country of origin.

Looking forward to your sharing.
