Just thjought i wouls show everone this photo of our 20m x 9m garage at Murray Bridge, you can see the new 42 footer on the side currently braked and blades broken due to a severe storm. I f you have a good look at the industrial strenght roller door you can see the top half of the door taking a wind battering, the bottom half is being kept in place by my 79' F100. each time i leave to go back to Adelaide i place 2 tyres on the rear bumper and back it up to the door to ptotect it from caving in, the wind power here is awsome.

Maybe you should make your tower smaller?

Just a thought, instead of shorting out the 3 phases on the gen. Maybe in your case you should install a mechanical braking system? I think a mountain bike disk brake would handle the job pretty decently.

Shorting out the 3 phases would put a lot of electrical load on the windings.

the wind there can be very strong at times i have installed a machine on the eastern slopes of the adelaide hills near monarto and managed to burn out a phase of the windings

yes the wind in our area is very strong burning out phases is not good but they can usually be easilly rewound if it is an F & P.
