Last weekend I started on the tower for my 2.4 meter high by 2 meter diameter Lenz2 windmill. The tower will be about 6 meters tall, latice type with guy wires, and will pivot down for maintenance. I wanted a tower that was strong, and could be used for a variety of different VAWT windmills. This is a 3 meter section of latice. The legs are 50mm angle, and the braces 25mm angle. The bearing carrier. This will attach to the top of the tower, and is made from 8mm plate and a 700mm length of 120mm pipe. The eyelets are for attaching guy wires. The bearing shown ( there will be another one under the carrier ) are 60mm id. These are a little overkill, but I wanted something strong and reliable. One day I would like to try a high speed Darrius, so strong bearings are a given. More to come. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

This weekend I aligned and welded up the brackets for the bearing holder to tower. And this it the bottom pivot point of the tower. The idea, if it works, is I can tilt the tower over at this point. The base, yet to be made, is about 1 meter high and matches up with these pivot points. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Hi Dwyer. I dont see your name on the file! Can you prove its yours! I was going to paint it, need to grap a pot of RustKill and give it a couple of coats. I did use a Cad program to design the tower, especially the tilt down angle, and the laser cut parts. I use a 2d cad program called "Profiler", used for Laser cutting but I use it for my general cad work as well. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. The program "Profiler" is great, once you know how to use it its one of the fastest cad packages out there. I do use Autocad or Rhino occasionally, but always end up going back to Profiler because its easy and fast to use. I first used it on the first laser cutter I programmed for. Small Ozy made machine with a 300 watt slab resonatorhttp://www.axismotion.com/. The Profiler software comes with the machine and is free to download. Hi Glenn, very professional job,as usual. Has the file got my initials on it --"Telecom" or "PMG", I used these initials way back --found plenty of my stuff around the country, strange that was ?. I've got some "arms" for a vawt that I will one day start, at present we are experiencing 100 Kph winds. Mill is down. Bruce Bushboy |

I had 45-47 Kmh wind here on the weekend. Mill was making 20+ amps at 54 volts (orHere if like me you need your glasses!) We had 107 Kmh here in december and the carnage was unbelievable. Trees torn off, smashed and dumped in kit form where they had been. I didn't see my turbine furl at 45 Kmh, but it was sure going like the clappers. I don't think I want to see it at 100! |
