Hi Folks, i might have missed it reading the wealth of great info on the site...But im interested in more details of the furling system of the Windmill Project. For instance...Looking at the design, it looks like it will provide an "auto furling" operations similar to the Bergey, or chinese turbine products that are around. Based on the geometry described, at what wind speed will the windmill furl? (roughly of course) thanks in advance Cheers Andrew |

I have no idea. Its one of those thing I built to the old "That angle looks about right" theory, and it worked. I dont know wind speed, but it starts to furl at just over 200 watts, maybe a little early, so I need to add some wieght to the tail. Have a look at this message thread, it has some calculations. http://www.thebackshed.com/windmill/forum1/forum_posts.asp?T ID=235&KW=windstuffnow I need to document them and put the details on the web site. Thanks Glenn, I had been googling for ages and hadnt found anything.. I followed the link and also went to http://www.windstuffnow.com/main/turbine_kit.htm (same author) and even managed to derive the equations which makes me happier that i now understand :-) cheers Andrew |
