 l just read about some want to run windmill to run car fridge on the outback is waste of time trying to setup windmill gen for few days and it ok if anyone camping for long period of time but for short stay is simple go to any good hardware or autopart to buy small porable petrol gen 240volt 850 watt with 12 volt charger the cost around $98 which l have one and fuel 4.2 liter last approx 7 hrs on light load]

I heard that those cheap little generators work well for what they are. And their pretty cheap. Also heard that the little 2 stroke motors give up after a while, a few people  have taken them back under warrenty and the suppliers just replace them, dont bother fixing them.

So I'm thinking, there must be a lot of dead generator sets somewhere. The generator side would still be ok, if you had a reliable little 4 stroke you could couple them together.

Hi Everyone

well l havent not heard about cheap gen problem as many new or first time buyer brought cheap gen is they must read manual intruction before they start the gen as many of them have no idea how to use correct oil and fuel mix 50:1 as l use Castrol TTS:fully Synthetic 2 stroke oil which run cooler at full load and also they must understand how to use it correcting and understanding " What is wattage mean? " like 850 watt as normal safely use750 watt contuiling all day long without any drama and l have seen simple mind person trying to cook meat on 1500 watt frypan on 850 watt gen by hold on pressing on overload switch.  Crazy . Anyway Chinese Gen worth US $38 each however the Buyer must buy approx 300 or full shipping Containter before could  land on your front Door (See in Chinese Webs site)  Regard ian

Yes There are sales now for gen at Thrifty-link Hardware for $97 same gen l brought two years ago for $98 0ne doller cheaper still going but how chinese make it for bowl of rices

Very soon l am going to fit F&P onto  $400 Chinese Diesel engine (4.2Kw)and will be fitted onto the Flywheel with l have got running 2KW 240volt 1500 rpm Dunlight alt and l will send some photos  on DIY Windmill  site very soon as l am going to buy a lathe this weeks .So Watch Out

yes it took me many years to buy tool and equiments my first mig welder l brought was saf 321 amp was brought in 1979 and still going as l have change the wire feeder to CIG and reason it has better 2 gear wire roller while other Saf has one gear and roller causing to much problem on alloy wire but ok on steel but sticking while doing welding  lan

It was probably me who was/is looking for a way to make small wind gennie for a fridge. I also have one of those small gennies you mentioned, and it works quite well. It also has a 12v 8A out which could be useful.

The thing is, it takes petrol to run it, so there's a cost PLUS the need to carry fuel. Total package(gen, fuel) is heavy. The weight factor puts me off and theirs an on going running cost. Also, many camp grounds don't allow the use of gennies

I only need a constant 5-10A to keep up with my daytime usage, plus enough to keep the charge up. A small VAWT seems to be a viable option. It would be lighter in the first place. If made so it can easily be dismantled/assembled, it would occupy less space when packing 4x4, or ever strapped to roofrack as a complete unit.

I've started with a F&P motor to get a working prototype. Once I'm happy with that, I will down-size to a more portable unit.

My ideal is a unit that would be no more than a metre high, can be placed on the ground with a few wire stays. Most of my camping is on the beach, so I'm usually going to have fairly clean air at ground level.

Hmm ? Well l got an idea for you about F&P windmill if is possible you can set up on your roof rack and fold it down when you start move around with your 4x4 and if you camping near the beach it would be lovely as nice breeze blowing from the sea  and  good luck to you
