Bruce Tonkin sent me an email with a couple of photos of his new F&P windmill. Looks good, the tower is 10 meters high. Here's his email... " It's been a while since I spoke to you last but thought I would let you know that I finally got one of my wind generators up. In case you don't remember, I bought a couple of sets of blades from Eco-Innovations and teamed them up to a 80SP with your mounting plates. I think I sent you a copy of the plans a while ago. I decogged the stator and also spaced the rotor back slightly so that the startup would be better in light winds. The good news is that it works exactly as I had hoped for in the wind conditions that we experience here. The winds are moderate and very choppy, quickly changing direction probaly over 90 degrees or so. The wind generator starts up in these conditions beautifully and follows the wind direction quickly. At this time of year, when the wind blows, it has been putting 2-10 amps most of the time with up to 22 amps in gusts where the blades bend back and limit their speed automatically. As I built this one for my neighbours it has been built bullit proof with large bearings, heavy tube, the carbon fibre blades, etc so it should last for a while. We did have a bad storm a week ago when the were quite a few trees blown over but the generator sailed through unscathed. There is about a 30 metre run, 10 down the tower and 20 to the batteries. Thanks for providing such good quality mounting plates for the blades as without these the whole project would have been much more difficult." Well done Bruce. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
