Hello everyone. And thankyou for a wonderfull and helpfull website Glenn. Im wondering if anyone has any idea on how long the f+p motors last in the sun? I cant imagine that they have any uv stabilizers in the plastic. Has anyone tried making a cowling yet? I have a few 20ltr drums that fit over the motor with about 5mm clearance but am worried about heat and there not very aerodynamic. |

Hi Sangeff, I've recently noticed that afew cracks are appearing in my plastic rotor on the exterior--don't kow if it's the retrofitted neo's that are doing it or caused it --or it's breaking down under the uv. I will be painting mine soon and now have a question --what is the best type of paint to use-I think electricians paint that orange pvc electrical conduit (above ground) with a paint ----at least that's what the code requires them to do (seldom see them do it )
The drum thing seems a good idea if you can manage to fix it very securely so that it dosen't vibrate and rattle. cheers Bruce Bushboy |

Thanks for the offer ian but ive managed to collect 20 of them so i should be rite for while ill probably just give them a good coat of paint and then make a curved roof for each one to help keep the rain out as well. The alloy rotor sounds interesting let us know how you go. Thanks Geoff |

I have seen the UV damage on one of my hubs. About 2 years worth of sun light, and the plastic was starting to get fine cracks. The top layer was starting to crumble, like a fine powder. I now paint my hubs in enamel, Killrust or engine paint. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
