Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I read an article this morning about support for WIN10 ceasing on 25th October 2025, still a year away, but. Apparently people have been reluctant to upgrade to WIN11, me included.I do have a WIN11 machine in my workshop mainly used for Micromite/Picomite related stuff.
Unfortunately there is a lack of alternatives, Apple Mac ?, Microsoft and Linux.
I have tried Linux but it needs to be more user friendly in my opinion, using SUDO whatever and having to join a group I got a bit lost. I managed OK but there are others in my houshold who would have trouble.
So we use Windows and have to do what we are told by Microsoft. Like Grogster my WIN11 maching got Co-Pilot in an upgrade, which I uninstalled but it will comeback.
So do we have to upgrade to WIN11 before support runs out.

No! Just because it's not supported by Microsoft, doesn't mean it's no good. Use a third party anti-virus program and you can use Win 10 for many years to come. You won't have any updates but if the software works the way you want it to now, then you don't need updates. There are people still using Windows 7 and even Vista every day.

I'm still using win7 works fine for all my MMBasic needs.
also browsing, ebay, youtube, but NOT banking.

Support was to end in.. ? years ago

Yet it still pesters me to do updates,
And I never do, which I SUSPECT IT IS WORKING SO WELL !

I don't think we'll ever see a problem-free version,
which suits me great.. what a smart business model.
(quite a lot of my pension is invested in MS !)

Yes I still use XP on an old laptop and all is fine but I don't connect to the internet. I don't use 3rd party antivirus with win10 or 11, not needed and I don't feel like paying an annual sub.

Me,

Ubuntu whenever possible, W10/11 when no other options reside (games, banking stuff).

And I still have the 12y old MAC, that lost all it's charme when it got the update that killed all 32bit apps (like a full and payed MS office suite for MAC).
That was Catalina(2019). And then Apple stopped updating this MAC series. So .. they killed 32bit apps, as a last update, and then stopped further updating. Basterds....

I updated to win 11 free and legal. I posted before.
1. get win 11 iso from ms... only 64 bit available.
2. use Rufus to make a usb bootable pen drive. This will make win 11 run on any 64 bit pc even though windows says "hardware not supported"
3. change pc bios to boot from usb drive which installs win 11.
4. search for win 11 Generic key to activate win 11. It works not activated but nags you and it's not configurable not even the wall paper.
