Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

When I download videos from my phone, although they play OK on the phone, they are 90's out of alignment when played on the PC with something like VLC.

I need some kind of software, that can take these files, rotate the video(left) by 90', and then save a new copy of the video.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Are you taking the videos in portrait mode? That should be banned. The best you can get is a vertical strip in the middle of the screen with huge black side borders.

Hi Grogster, All,

You can change the rotation in VLC itself.  See this link

A couple of ideas:

1. mplayer can rotate when showing videos

2. ffmpeg can convert an input video into a rotated output one
e.g. using -vf transpose =...

Maybe your phone is locked into portrait mode so it will not change when you rotate the phone.

No, I am taking them in landscape mode(phone on it's side), but when you try to play them, they come out as portrait orientation, 90-degrees rotated to the right - so just as you say: vertical strip in the middle of the screen.

ON THE PHONE, they play fine if you turn the phone on it's side, it's just when you try to play the downloaded video file on something else.
