I've just updated the STM32 development environment so I needed to test the build was OK and Mauro's demo was an obvious test program. I'd forgotten how good the CMM2 can be in the hands of a great programmer This is a reminder Source code for this and other code from Mauro is at https://github.com/mauroxavierneto Edited 2024-02-23 22:23 by matherp |

Hey Pete, For those of us interested in displaying hi-res control panels, etc., is there any information regarding how long it takes to refresh a 16bit driven 1963 screen and such like? Are we talking us or ms? |

Hi Phenix, That question is not related to CMM2. It may belong to a thread about the Armmite H7 Volhout PicomiteVGA PETSCII ROBOTS |

I love my CMM2. Mine is installed in an adapted Amiga case which I fit a mechanical keyboard and a VGA to HDMI adapter. CMM2 in an Amiga case My primary goal with Knightmare and also future games is to have them running on the CMM2. The second goal is the PicoMite |

Ah, of course...it was a knee-jerk reaction to being impressed with the speed of the graphics on the YT vid. |

I also love my CMM2. (In fact I have 3 of them so that if one breaks I still have working ones.) I am still cranking out code, although mine doesn't have the pizzaz that Mauro's astonishing demo does. I will be posting the latest game today. -Bill |

I'm astonished at that! I guess Peter meant young in experience with MMBasic. It's a pity Mauro went on to other things, he could almost make the CMM2 talk. Then Peter did make it talk. Don't forget Tom's (thwill's) Welcome Tape it puts many of the better games and demos at that time into one package. The CMM2 IS the MMBasic flagship more members should own them. I only have two. I'm terrified one will break. Bill Keep safe. Live long and prosper. |

I now ship ALL my CMM2G2 units, complete with a SD card in the slot, and the demo-tape program already in memory. The blurb that goes with each unit, tells people to type RUN or just press F2 to run this demo, to get them excited about what it can do. I also include DEMOX, and tell customers to run that to REALLY see what the unit is capable of. This is to date, the best graphics demo for the CMM2 I think. With no disrespect to anyone else who did a demo, but DEMOX is amazing. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

For info: I intend to redo the CMM2 PCB design in EasyEDA which I now use for everything. As part of this I will change components so the entire board, if possible, can be fabricated by JLC with no extra components to be added by hand. The changes I envisage will be to: use a USB-C connector for the console/power eliminate the optional USB mouse I/F chip - many mice still support PS2 and plug directly into the dual USB-A connector change to a micro-sd to save space move the reset switch to the card edge and find space for a CR2032 battery The new layout will be completely compatible with the existing S/W Anything else I should consider? |

G’day Peter, Can the RAM be increased from its current size? If so maybe an optional extra ram position? Also do they now ONLY supply the 480MHz version of the ARM? Regards, mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

I can't remember the schematic at the moment, but one I seem to remember is series resistors on the audio output lines to prevent damage if 8R headphones are plugged in. Someone *will* do it. Specify PCB spacers that are larger diameter to drop over the mounting pillars rather than have to struggle with short spacers. Proper self-tapping screws would be nice too. They are #4 (5mm length to mount a PCB without spacers). The TFP09-2-12B push-push micro USB sockets seem to be cheap and plentiful. My interest in the CMM2 is piqued I have a firmware request; would it be possible to have something like OPTION BANNER OFF? Copyright display is cool but for embedded aplications, the start-up banner suggests that it's only a games console. |

IIRC Geoff will allow customised banners in certain cases, but you have to put a good case forward for it. You can always use OPTION AUTORUN to start your program automatically and disable Break. It's not a good thing to remove copyright info. It can lead to all sorts of nasty things. Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

Just to chime in - I absolutely love my CMM2. Have lots of Retro emulators and stuff, but the CMM2 is the one I keep coming back to. The absolute perfect blend of power and old school limitations. It's the super workstation computer that I wished I'd had back in the 80's. |
