Announcing the new firmware version 5.08.00 for the PicoMite, PicoMite VGA and the WebMite from Peter Mather. The web pages have been updated (scroll to the bottom of the page for the downloads): PicoMite: https://geoffg.net/picomite.html PicoMite VGA: https://geoffg.net/picomitevga.html WebMite: https://geoffg.net/webmite.html There are a number of new features and many bug fixes - check the change log. These releases also include updated manuals. Congratulations to Peter for a lot of hard work and perseverance. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

Many thanks to Geoff as always for creating and updating the manuals without which the firmware would be pretty useless. I may have said this before but it is my view that the PicoMite firmware is now "complete" within the realistic limitations of the RP2040 H/W and I won't be making any further changes other than specific bug fixes. There are many fairly complex new facilities in this release particularly around optimizations for game development. These are described in the manuals but I highly recommend you look at the work of some of our game development experts to see how these facilities are used in real applications. The WebMite continues to have an issue with longterm reliability so it is important that you use the various techniques to monitor operation (See Geoff's watering controller application as an example). I've gone as far as I can trying to solve this but now can only assume there is something about the protocol stack or the operation of the cyw43/PIO I/F that is the root of the problem. If and when there is a new release of the SDK I'll look at this again. The firmware source is available on github. |

Many, many thanks to both of you for the incredible work that you've both done on these projects. How on earth you've found the time and sheer determination to see this stuff through, in spite of hassling from the rest of us on here, I've no idea. :) The Micromite and PicoMite in particular continue to astound me. The hardware in both cases simply wasn't intended to do what has been done with them. I feel another download coming on... :) Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

Congratulations with the release !!! Past years you have given me so much joy in working with PicoMite. Thank you both !! Volhout sadly, the font change in the PIO section of the manual was forgotten. Edited 2024-01-19 20:55 by Volhout PicomiteVGA PETSCII ROBOTS |

Absolutely! Without a proper manual (oh, and it really is!!) it would be (nearly) impossible to make use out of it. Peter, I am very very happy with the state of the pico firmware right now, It can do so many things, never fails to impress me what all experienced people here can do with it. Thank you for making this happen! The many possibilities will be enough for a whole series of projects! Personally, I was still hoping for Bluetooth support. But maybe it will come when there is a new SDK for the WLAN/Bluetooth part of the RP2040 and the weather in the UK is rainy again ;-) As I said: Thank you, thank you, thank you! What about an "official" wiki for the Pico/Web-Mite range? I've struggled to keep up with the news here on the forum and I'm sure I've missed a few things... like the fact that the VGA outputs are now flexible. I think we as a "community" could make a huge contribution to this wiki. Matthias |

Geoff and Peter, Congratulations and many thanks. As a retiree of over 10 years may I say how much I appreciate MMBasic - it means a lot to my remaining sanity. You both do a remarkable job in keeping yourselves, and hence us, up with the latest. Thank you. I know its been raised before but is there any chance of you both activating a "Donate" button - if only to fund devices to enable you to continue being up to date? Does this mean that a line can be drawn under Peter's post regarding comments on the manual - and a new one started? What about the RCs do they now re-start? Once again, a big thank you to you both, Andrew |

I only used it on picomite but impressed how versatile it is and how it keeps improving. I don't use my arduino or lgt328 boards with gcbasic anymore, mmbasic and a picomite is much better. |

Many thanks for your time and effort. Why was there no space in the manual for a description of how to use it with Android or a link? https://www.thebackshed.com/forum/ViewTopic.php?TID=16312&PID=213594#213594#213594 Gregor |

I thought that that link went in. I will put it in for the next manual revision. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

I would like to echo this sentiment. On retirement, after the mandatory trip around Australia by caravan, I found the backshed on my return. I order one of @bigmik's 8 pin NanoMites, now I have at least one of everything and have learned to cut and paste a bit of C code as well. Thanks Gerry Latest F4 Latest H7 |

Yes, please post comments about errors in the new manuals and I will issue a revision when enough have accumulated. Peter's thread is good for that. No, no more RCs, for the foreseeable future anyway. Peter is planning for bug fixes only, which usually do not need the beta/RC sequence. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

A puzzle I cant find an answer to in the manuals. Does enabling a GPS receiver on a Pico automatically update the Time$ and RTC? I ask because my RTC's, when connected to a Pico with GPS never deviate from GPS time by more than a second, which is astonishing for a DS1307. Footnote added 2024-01-21 13:04 by phil99 Answer - No. Changed the RTC time to be 15S off GPS time an the difference is still 15S. The DS1307 really had drifted less than 1S in 5 days! |

I prefer the Picos with more onboard flash and for connectivity, I think I would couple the Pico with the Annex32. It has: -Bluetooth classic -Bluetooth BLE -WiFi -ESP-Now I have read about a round-trip message latency of 4ms(!) -LORA -Wired Ethernet (W5500 device has 32K buffer) Bluetooth and WiFi share the antenna which can be the onboard or external type. Sounds like a great combo to me |

Geoff and Peter, thanks again for all your efforts. There is always something new to be exited about. I wish that I could contribute with something, but my skills are quite limited in this arena. It does not feel right to always ask advice without being able to do much to help others. Pluto |

Thanks Geoff and Peter for your wonderful contribution. Everyday I would gleefully read the latest updates and download the latest RC, and start playing with a new feature. And the features were pouring in so fast, I could not keep up with them. I'm sure for many of us, MMBasic brought back the the excitement we felt in the early days of computers, where we could achieve almost anything we could conceive, with an easy to understand language. So Geoff and Peter, I hope your light keeps shining, in whatever you do in the future. All the best, Bernie Edited 2024-01-21 03:34 by Bernie3D |

I would like to thank everyone who has made this possible. Especially Peter and Geoff, of course. Also to those who make this website possible and to all the great members who fill this site with life. Especially to Volhout, who always makes great circuit suggestions or to Martin H. with his great programs. Thanks also to all the others who share their time and knowledge here with everyone! MMBASIC is one of the few things I enjoy in my life. THANK YOU!!! Frank |
