I ordered one of these things to test with the CMM2, and am delighted - and more then a little surprised(for the price!) - to find it works just fine.  Image is stable and crisp.  I used the mouse port on the CMM2 to power the converter, but if you also needed the mouse port, a simple external USB 5v power pack/wall-wart would also work.

Even when it is NOT on special, it is only US$3.55!
For that price, I was sure it would not work well, or perhaps not even work AT ALL, but I have been pleasantly surprised.

From next year, I think I will be including this adaptor as part of the CMM2 product, then we have HDMI covered.

Can anyone suggest any changes I could make to the resolutions etc, to try to trip this unit up?
Now that I know it works, I would like to see how it deals with any changes, especially if there are any NON-STANDARD resolutions I can put the CMM2 into, to see what happens with the converter.

On TassyJim's MMEdit site he has a MMBasic video Mode test card program. That should test it out.

There are a lot of things advertised on AE for $0.69 but when you click "Add to Cart" the price jumps. Just a clickbait price.
That one jumps to $4.42 + postage.

Edit
Correction.
Go to the checkout and it changes to $4.88 including postage. Not so bad after all.

Grogster,
Try it on as many different TV/monitors as you can find. It might be fussy and if you supply it, you will get the flack if it doesn't work satisfactorily on some obscure monitor.

I've been using mine for years without issue in any resolution I've tried (although I only have a Gen 1 CMM2 - so haven't tried the Gen 2 resolutions).

My monitor is a fairly old ASUS 1920x1080. Nothing special.

The 4:3 images do get stretched (see below) - but it doesn't make a huge difference (in fact I like it).

This is mode 1 640x400. Note: The slight bluriness is caused by my hand shake - the image is rock solid.

As a quick update - I just bought one of these for another project (recording and passing through the HDMI) and it also works great for recording the HDMI output from the CMM2 (via those cheap VGA-HDMI adapters).

As a wee bonus, it can also be used as a picture-in-picture input for a larger monitor (it appears as a "camera" on a PC, so you can open the camera app and position it wherever you want on your screen).

This is particularly useful as I'm working on a CMM2 program that requires communicating with an ESP32, and being able to program both of them side by side is way more comfortable than having to swivel between two monitors. In the picture below, you can see the CMM2 display at the the top left.

Hi All,

The one I have, and used for testing CMM2 back in the days has worked well for me and my HDMI only input monitors. Also less than $3AU.

Be wary though there are similar (identical looking) units that convert HDMI to VGA not the other way around. Read the labelling of input and output carefully

Regards,

Mick
