Hi I just accidently found/noticed the Open New Tab + symbol/icon in Windows 11 File Explorer. Can someone please tell me how long that has been there? Brian ChopperP |

I don't know about that... But I don't like you can't rename things in the left column any more. It does the rename, but on some random item and not the one that is highlighted. |

Yes, GS is really impressive, I agree!  Technically though, it is illegal unless you purchase a key and install it to your copy of GS. Even then, although legal as far as Windoze copy is concerned, it's still a bit of a gray area - MS probably won't like anyone doing that, cos it bypasses all their intense telemetry rubbish, but I certainly hear you with that post, and the difference is quite startling between a full W10 and the GS versions in terms of speed and resource requirements etc. ....but I digress.... Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Oh I was so close to trying this for the umpteenth time but I grabbed a cheap Mini-PC:  Stripped-down W11: No update nagging No Cortana No Weather No News-feeds In fact, none of the irritating stuff. Did some command-line stuff to enable "Ultimate" power profile and now I have an amazing machine. 3 HDMI ports, 2-Ethernet ports, 3 USB ports, N100 processor running >3GHz, doesn't get warm and is totally silent. Happy camper. |

Yes, as installed GS is already activated. I was only mentioning about the legallities of using such an install.  To make it legal, you need a license key for that copy. But you don't NEED it, cos it is already activated when you install it. It's one of those tricky areas, where as a forum admin, I have to state that use of hacked versions of Windoze is really a no-no and you soulden't use them, but on the other side of the coin... Also, a cut-down or otherwise hacked version is POTENTIALLY dangerous, cos it could come bundled with malware or other nasties that you know nothing about, but then - some might also say that Windoze Security is a virus in and of itself!  I say that, cos I just spend the last couple of daze, endlessly fighting W10's security, to install a software package for programming a pager transmitter, and W10 kept INSISTING it was infected with a severe trojan, and promptly prevents the install, and cos W10 thinks it is a severe risk, it also deletes the installer file without asking you.... I have confirmed with the company and the software writers that the software is NOT infected, but W10 kept on with the false positives - some might call THAT behaviour similar in interference level, to that of an actual virus!  Eventually fixed it by DISABLING W10 security during the install, and adding an exclusion to Windoze Security to NOT scan or check the folder that the software was installed into. I then re-enabled Windoze Security, and now everything has settled down, and the software runs fine. NZ company for the transmitter and software, so it was not some unknown software out of China etc, which can often be a risk, so I am pretty sure this is just a false-positive situation, but they can be quite hard to circumvent if Windoze wants to make it hard for you! @Grogster Don't apologise for digressing, it's all good stuff. I have zero protection because I use very few apps and my valuable data is sync'd to DropBox, G-drive, Onedrive and my phone, in real-time. If I need to wipe my system, no biggie. Crack my email and you risk death-by-boredom. |
