Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Something interesting to report today...

OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo now has knowledge of world events up to April 2023, including info about PicoMite, MMBasic, etc.

The current GPT-4 model is "gpt-4-1106-preview".

I asked it today "What do you know about MMBasic and the PicoMite?"

Here's the AI's response:

MMBasic is a modern version of the BASIC programming language designed to run on microcontrollers and small computers...

Features of MMBasic and PicoMite typically include:

- A straightforward syntax that’s easy to learn and understand, making it suitable for beginners.
- Access to the GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output) pins for controlling electronics, such as LEDs, motors, and sensors.
- Built-in commands for interfacing with various hardware peripherals like I2C, SPI, and UART.
- The ability to run programs automatically on start-up, allowing the Pico to be used in embedded projects without a connected computer.

Slightly off-topic, but still.....

I got sent this video the other day.  While some of them are easy to spot as fake, SOME of them are REALLY good.
Biden and a few others REALLY look like them doing it, others like Macron and Johnson are quite obviously spotted as fakes.

The issue I have with tech like this - chatGPT AND these kinds of video-manipulation fakes is that they WILL be weaponized for political reasons moving forward, and many of the sheeple will simply BELEIVE it to be true, cos they are unaware of or do not believe that these levels of fake can be done now - and they will only get better and even MORE convincing.

How can we believe ANYTHING said by ANYONE ever again, with this kind of thing becoming commonplace? (rhetorical)

Sadly many already can not/will not see the truth when it's right in front of them.

Grogs, all,

I smiled at that video, but everyone was totally obvious that they were computer generated as the bodies all stayed still, but of course, this is only early days of AI for the masses.

A month or so ago I asked ChatGPT to "read the PicoMite MMBasic manual" (and provided a URL), then asked questions about algorithm implementations. I'd say it got a grade of about 70%, with numerous syntax mistakes, etc.

Google Bard is also aware of MMBasic now, knows where to get it, and can write "OK" code, but gets confused with VisualBasic syntax and constants (like color values).

For an interesting take on this, see "The Artifice Girl" a recent movie.
