Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Forum Index : Microcontroller and PC projects : New Board , maybe worth a look

According to the hype , ' RISC V ' should give
more ' bang / buck ' due to being ' open source ' ..

Could be interesting for mmbasic, not for linux. With 'up to' 64 MByte ram, it will be hard to do something practical with linux. Remember the raspberry pi's have 512M....8G. And the 512 models are not advertised as candidates for a graphical UI.

You can run Linux in MUCH less memory... but obviously not the "desktop GUI fully-featured" version.

For a uC, use a small or tiny (uC-suitable) configuration of Linux.

At the tiny end, BSD UNIX (UNIX being the inspiration for Linux) runs on a PIC32 with 64K RAM (yes, 64K).  Read up on RetroBSD if you like.

As hardware has become so cheap, though, probably just don't bother with anything small...

I have a number of linux devices running openWrt with 4MB memory and reporting sensor readings. The latest version of openWrt wants 8MB. (And with ESP devices having WIFI and now WebMite I no longer need the Linux intermediary, so haven't installed openWrt in several years.)

Right. Non-GUI Debian ought to run fine, and other options are available. There may well be a light GUI version which would run with 64MB.

(EDIT: Hmmm, maybe not Debian now, possibly depending on how it is configured.)

Hello,

lxde and jwm can run with this amount of memory. but not expect the performance of one xeon or m2 chip with a rtx4090 :)

Very cool this board, tkz for sharing. Maybe it will be a good host for the vice emulator.
