Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hello, it's really very annoying that you (since some days) get advertising before you even can read an article. isn't that going a bit too far? Ok, Money makes the world go around...... Edited 2023-05-30 22:05 by atmega8 |

Yes, I agree... very much in your face. Normal advertising is fine (I have AdBlock turned off for TBS) but pop up ads are a step too far. I just hope that advertisers pay an extra HUGE amount for them. And don't get me started on animated ads. Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

Yep I've noticed them as well. Google is like that, they will introduce a new "feature", and its up tp you to turn it off if you dont like it. Done. Those popup ads should be gone. Lets see what they come up with next. I've been tempted many times to get rid of all the ads, but they make about $100 to $150 a month which pays for the server hosting, so they stay. But that popup was especially annoying. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Hello atmega8, did you mean ads in this forum or somewhere else? I ask because I don't see any ads.# I'm using a raspberry pi 4 as adguard-home dns-blocking filter. The installation was simple: sudo apt install snapd sudo snap install adguard-home Then you can login the admin page on http://localhost:3000 I told my router to give the raspberry pi address to the DHCP clients as their DNS - so all clients connecting to the router get the adguad-home dns answers - even smart phones or other devices. The adguard-home can use ready made filter lists or you can create your own entries simply by clicking on the logfile entries to block them. A similar tool is https://pi-hole.net/ but I have no special knowledge about that software. https://snapcraft.io/adguard-home -andreas |

Keep the ads as when they change someone here will let you know and you'll handle it. If later you need to lose the ads put up a donate button. At a few other sites I check out have a paypal button. Not sure if it cost them. TBS and a few other forums are the only form of social media I engage in. Keep up the GREAT work as without the TBS I may not have found MMBasic and all the fellow graybeards and the few that are not. Making my retirement alive and full of FUN. Learning keeps me young. My web-browser is Firefox and I had no idea what you were talking about. No advertisements on Firefox. So I opened the Backshed forum on Chrome and there they were....... Tried Bing and there they were....... Seems that Firefox does not display them for one reason or another. Oh and I do not use an addblocker, I never do. Keep in mind that advertising might be annoying but it ensures that I can use services like Google Search, Gmail, Drive etc etc etc for free. The only place where it is getting annoying is while playing Youtube. Luc's tech Blog |
