Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Some of you probably have already seen this, but I thought it was a good documentary about the history of BASIC:

Birth of BASIC...

Great stuff! Anyone who enjoys that might also like the book by Kemeny and Kurtz, Back to BASIC. It goes into more specifics of the decisions that went into language features. BASIC was planned carefully and the language grew organically. There were very few "happy accidents"

Grogs ...

I wish you wouldn't do these things to me. I'm older than Kemeny, Kurtz, and von Neumann ... I met all of them back in the 1960s ... and I sat down and typed a five line program into a DARTS BASIC teletype and it ran.

I'm amazed by the fact that I am still running.
