Hi all,

I received a CMM1.5 recently and it works as expected except when trying to update to newer firmware.

Whenever I apply power with the boot button on the front panel held down the device seems to lock up.  I do not get anything detected as a USB device where I can add the new firmware, there is also no output over serial (as expected), and the heart beat LED does not light up.  I know the USB C cables work as I use them for serial access to the CMM1.5, and have also used them to flash a couple of the pink USB C based Picos recently (I have tried a few USB C data cables).  I am using a MacBook Pro (Apple Silicon/Latest macOS 15.2) and this is the only device I have had issues with.

Am I missing something here?  Is the process for updating a little different on this device?

Thanks in advance,

Guy

Quote  To install the firmware connect a USB-A to USB-A cable to the USB-A socket while holding down the "BOOT" switch. Copy the PicoMiteVGAUSB V5.09 firmware .uf2 file to the disk drive created by the RP2040. Then remove the USB-A cable and connect a USB-C for a console. Type OPTION RESET CMM1.5 and you are then fully configured

You need to use the USB-A socket.
You will need a USB-A to USB-A lead.

The USB-C connector, is for console only(and power) - it does not know how to talk to the unit for FM upgrades, that has to go via the USB-A connector.

Basically.....

1) Hold the BOOT button down
2) Plug in a USB-A to USB-A cable from your computer.

The usual flash-drive will then appear, and you can copy/paste the FW file you want.

Thanks heaps.

I'll have to see if I have any USB-A to A cables.  Happy new year!
