Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

By all means run Win 11 on machines that don't meet the spec, but don't keep anything on them that you may need in the future and keep backups of your data elsewhere (not on that machine at all). Otherwise, if the system decides to play silly bu66ers with the partition tables or drive allocation because of a "Windows Update" that your machine isn't suitable for, you'll be sorry. :) It's always a good idea to keep backups anyway. DH61BE motherboard dating from 2011, so around 13 years old. but i didn't buy it new. upgraded to an i7-3770s processor, 16gb RAM, SSD, using the onboard graphics (1080p) and running linux mint XFCE. various other operating systems i work with are run in VMs using VirtualBox. i can have a handful of VMs running at once with used RAM and CPU resources still below 25%. for things that do not involve gaming or video editing, these older processors are venerable workhorses - fast, relatively cheap (i paid around nz$40 for the 3770), on a motherboard with good connectivity. cheers, rob :-) |
