Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

By all means run Win 11 on machines that don't meet the spec, but don't keep anything on them that you may need in the future and keep backups of your data elsewhere (not on that machine at all). Otherwise, if the system decides to play silly bu66ers with the partition tables or drive allocation because of a "Windows Update" that your machine isn't suitable for, you'll be sorry. :)

It's always a good idea to keep backups anyway.

I am still using my old conpacq E500 (2000 model) running win 2000 for programming picaxes.

2 laptops - (2018) Asus tuf gaming Razen 5 processor with win 11 home
          (2024  acer I5 running win 11 home
2 desktop PC both small 100 mm * 100mm one with Razen 7 and win 11 pro
the other is an I5 running win 11 pro

One standard PC I5 running win7 32bit, needed for a database that will not run on a 64bit machine.

DH61BE motherboard dating from 2011, so around 13 years old. but i didn't buy it new. upgraded to an i7-3770s processor, 16gb RAM, SSD, using the onboard graphics (1080p) and running linux mint XFCE. various other operating systems i work with are run in VMs using VirtualBox. i can have a handful of VMs running at once with used RAM and CPU resources still below 25%.

for things that do not involve gaming or video editing, these older processors are venerable workhorses - fast, relatively cheap (i paid around nz$40 for the 3770), on a motherboard with good connectivity.

cheers,
rob   :-)

stanleyella said  if you want win 11 on hardware that does not meet win 11 compatibility then get win 11 iso from ms, 64bit only and use Rufus to make bootable usb then change boot order to usb and boot.
it bypasses the processors with security and install.
search for generic win 11 activation key to activate win 11 so it don't nag you and makes it customisable. works and legit

Installing without TPM and Secure Boot:
this is how i updated from Windows 10 to Windows 11 24H2 on my Del 6830 laptop
Win+R
CMD
change to W11 install directory and type
setup.exe /product server

is this to activate?
change to W11 install directory?
