Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I've just built a Picomite VGA sourced from Silicon Chip.

I was supplied with firmware 5.07.00. I've just updated it to 5.08.00 and I now have no video.
Connected to Virtual Serial port, it all seems functional.

I've tried doing a clear flash and rolling it back to 5.07.07 and the symptoms are the same.

Any suggesstions?

Stuart.

Unfortunately, it didn't help. I've installed the firmware from SC and still no video. are there any options to enable vga?

hi stuarts,

Are you sure you have programmed the VGA version of the software.
There is also a PicoMiteV5.08.00 microcontroller software version, that does not have VGA output or a PS2 keyboard input.

Check for the file that has "VGA" in the name.

The SC board is what Geoff calls "Design #1", the details are here.

Design #1.zip

It complies with the default VGA pinout that PicoMiteVGA 5.08.00 has out of the box.
It also complies with the default SD card interface from Peter's VGA platforms.
So you should only need to set

OPTION SDCARD GP13,GP10,GP11,GP12

After installing the picomite software. And then everything should work (Keyboard, SD card, VGA). The SC unit does not have any audio circuit.

When this does not help, is there a blinking green LED (1 sec rate) on the PicoMiteVGA after programming ?

I would check if monitor input is set on VGA
Check if monitor works with other VGA source
Check if PICO led is blinking if loaded default firmware (as from store)
Download and extract firmware using different archiver

as Volhout said, be sure it is PicomiteVGA firmware,
Restet pico once more https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/microcontrollers/pico-series.html#resetting-flash-memory

I had one original board which went dead after few flashes :(
And some count of resets did not helped :(

Another piece of advise (talking from experience)...

Check your soldering. The SC design is a kit. You did solder it yourself.
Especially if you soldered the Pico on the board without headers (surface mount the pico), there can be solder shorts or insufficient solder connections.

Or maybe a solder bridge between the 40 pin header pins.

One final thing - Load the clear_flash uf2 before the new firmware to make sure you start clean
clear_flash.zip

Unfortunately, the link that you provided isn't found. The firmware that I downloaded was from Geoff's page for the picomiteVGA and the firmware name has VGA included.
The Monitor happily displays the output from other systems.

I've just redownloaded the firmware from Geoff's site and extracted it with WinRAR instead of Windows and it seems to have solved the problem.

Thanks for prompting me to use a different archiver.

I’m glad the OP figured out the problem.

Speaking as an electronics manufacturing engineer, Volhout’s post made me cringe. There are 9 gold pads on the bottom side of the Pico, so please do NOT surface mount solder a Pico with circuits running under the Pico footprint. Looking at the picture, it just takes one tiny solder ball to connect one of more GPIO circuit to the SWDIO, GND or SWCLK, and you will loose too much hair trying to determine the fault.

If you insist on surface mount soldering  this board, do yourself a favor and cover the circuits with a piece of polyimide/Kapton tape before soldering the Pico.
