Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Rather interesting!!! LINK... Impressive though it is, the very thought of losing 1.6Pb of data if(and when!) the disc fails for some reason.......well - not that nice a thought, but the media seems to be pretty robust according to the video! EDIT: Bear in mind, this is only conceptual and in the lab. You cannot buy this as a product - yet. Edited 2024-07-02 12:08 by Grogster Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Yes! Very interesting! But remember, the whole reason you are worried about that is because hard disks fail regularly and cause the user so much pain. If you have a Petabyte of data to protect, you back it up. You very possibly put it in a mirrored storage system to both protect the data but to also provide resiliency of the data. Systems that can really use a Petabyte of data are going to have IT staff managing that data. |
