Hi All, I wasn’t sure where to post this but as I suspect this has been via JLCPCB I thought I had better mention it here. I have a Debit Visa that I rarely use, it is mainly for access to my ‘play money’ if/when I am overseas. That aside I have been using it, almost exclusively, to purchase my JLCPCB orders. This year I have used it for one order with RS components and around a dozen JLCPCB orders, no other places have I used the card. Well someone has tried to use my card details to place a $79 order, my bank suspected fraud and blocked the card and contacted me. I doubt that RS would be the source of the link but I am seriously dubious of JLCPCB being from China. Now, I have NO PROOF that it emanated from JLCPCB but I can’t see where else my details could have been obtained. Both the company they tried to order from and the ‘orderer’ were in HK, I think JLCPCB is also in HK or Shenzhen. Anyway, take it as a warning to protect your credit cards. Interesting. Where I can, I use PayPal because they hide your credit card details from the seller. I once had $10,000 charged against my credit card after I used it to pay for some motels in the USA (PayPal was not available). The bank reimbursed the money but now I do as you do and use a debit card with limited money on it. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

I almost always use PayPal or a credit card for internet payments. You have some protection in both cases, although PayPal is generally better. Debit cards are not a great idea on the internet, although I have used one for small purchases from local companies very occasionally. This has happened to me after using my credit card at AE. Afterwards, I was charged for alleged Amazon purchases for goods that I had not ordered. I got the money back, quite easily. But I still had a bad feeling. I switched to Paypal afterwards. No problems since then. I suspect there are gaps in Chinese data protection. Regards Michael causality ≠ correlation ≠ coincidence |

Hi John, All, This was literally 3 days ago, (27th June) my bank detected a suspect transaction and blocked it. My debit card is only used for 3 places that I can think of and only 2 this year (element14, RS components and JLCPCB). It really has to be a JLC leak. I have been using my debit card to save on their PayPal fee but in future I will be using PayPal with any Chinese company. I was initially reluctant to post this as I can’t say with 100% certainty that it was JLC but on reflection I felt it best to warn everyone. Regards, Mick (the big one) . Yes, I use my PayPal account for anything I buy on the net. 99% of all traders and businesses accept PayPal, so..... Also, PayPal is reasonably proactive at stamping out fraudsters. Basically, if PayPal get too many claims for refunds from a certain account, they generally lock it in a similar way that banks do, to prevent that account from accepting any more money, until they can give a satisfactory explination. The buggers out there trying to steal and rob from you via credit-cards, has been an issue since credit-cards came on the scene at all, and those same buggers are getting smarter and smarter at ways to trick both the card holder, and the banks. I do hear that, but their fee can probably be considered to be cheap insurance against this kind of thing. Naturally, the bigger the transaction, the bigger the PayPal fee is, but for sub $100 purchases, the PayPal fee is only a couple of bucks or so. I use PayPal for all my website sales too! I simply factor the PayPal fee, into the final product cost. Edited 2024-07-01 15:49 by Grogster Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Yea read a ABC article today where the big 4 banks are geting hammered 24 hours a day and went to login to online banking only to find it has been taken down with a message they hope to be back online soon. With some luck the govt will find out who is behind all this so some action can be taken but whats the bet it will be put in the too hard basket and we are left alone to fend for ourselves |
