GDay All, The Australian Computer Museum Society have done an interview with Don from Dontronics. It is an interesting listen but it does go for about 1 hour. Don talks about his early days of learning electronics and the Julius tote as well as his claim of his having the first PC `Purchased' in Australia. >>> Don McKenzie Interview <<< I hope you enjoy. Didn't know Don had such a history in the early PC's. Very interesting. Its a shame they spent so much time on "who owned the first PC", I would rather have found out more about Don's adventures. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Hi Glenn, All, Stay tuned for Part 2. Seriously, I believe the original reason for the interview was because of Don's claim to buying the first PC in Australia. Don has recently donated that PC to ACMS. I am sure Don could have talked for a couple of more hours. Regards, Mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

Thanks very much Mick. Hi Glenn. The Podcast was nearly 2 hours in total, but I can understand the need to edit a lot of it out. Here is what Riley, the curator of ACMS said about the interview that he conducted: "One interesting thing about "non-live" podcasting is the ability to remove umms, ahhs, and-umms, you-knows, and other disfluencies. I can sometimes spot them by sight in the wave forms nowadays. So we all do it. Some more than others. I do leave a few in to maintain realism but take most out. I umm and ahhh A LOT. More than most for example. But most interesting is when people don't do it. Interviewees seem to get into "hyper-focus" for short periods of time and the disfluencies just drop away. You have these hyper-focus moments. It makes editing a treat! Haha. I think you have the record, which is about 1.5 mins without a disfluency." The following URLs will hopefully fill in a few blanks about some of my adventures: https://www.urallasolutions.com/is-this-australias-first-pc/ http://www.dontronics.com/my_early_tote_years.html https://www.wizard-of-oz.com/ https://www.wizard-of-oz.com/about-us/ And my "Darwin Colourising Yesteryear" Facebook Group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/726279278803201/ I'll see if I can document more of my adventures before I fall off the perch. :-) Cheers Don...
