Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

FotS: Fruit of the Shed Wiki Rebirth The Fruit of the Shed has been migrated to DokuWiki on a hosted service on VentraIP. It is presently read only until I work out the backup strategy. The details of a disaster recover need to be worked out. e.g. full loss of the site or the administrator. For now it is also running on my Synology NAS box where I initially converted and loaded the data. DokuWiki is fully file system based and runs under PHP. All the content lives in two directories data/pages, and data/media. If you have these two directories and the administration manual (which I am yet to write) you could rebuild the system from scratch. You would need to add the users and security manually. These two directories could be place on github and be available to be cloned. A more complete backup and restore is probably possible to fully recover to a new instance of a lost site, but I need to research this. Multiple users with admin privileges would ensure someone has a password to get into the recovered system as admin. DokuWiki seems to be widely used and still current with good documentation so hopefully it a good choice. For now you can have a browse of the content here. Have a look under the wiki area for some tips on navigation. Lets me know of any issues with links etc. FotS (The Captain's Trove) Gerry Latest F4 Latest H7 |

I've just had a quick peek Gerry - and my immediate reation is that this looks easier to navigate than I remember the original FOTS being. I will explore further this evening when I have more time... So thank you very much for doing this Regards, IanT |

Thanks very much for this contribution. Great work. I will be looking into it further. Note, though, that Andrew is CaptainBoing, not "CaptainBoring" as in the Welcome page (fat finger or autocorrect?). PicoMite, Armmite F4, SensorKits, MMBasic Hardware, Games, etc. on fruitoftheshed |

Hi Gerry, All, That looks really good, well done. I took the liberty to let Andrew, aka CaptainBoing, know about the new site and he has responded as follows: That is really good! I think it looks better than before - nice clean interface. Have to say I find the "captain's trove" thing a bit cringy - there was a lot of stuff from others and this makes it sound like it was all mine... can't it just be FotS 2.0 or something? But hey, it isn't my choice and if people are OK with it... Gerry et al have done sterling work. Very happy it is still usable - I can rest easy now :o) As he has shown a reluctance for the “Captains Trove” moniker I suggest we drop that and either call it by its original name or append a 2.0 as Andrew suggests. He also said the domain name is still registered till Nov 27 this year and he will release the ‘locks’ if someone wants to renew and point to the new FotS. I have no idea about how to do this or how much Domain names cost to maintain but I am happy to donate something toward those costs if that is something that the TBS community wishes to persue. Kind Regards, Mick (The big one) . Edited 2024-01-20 19:39 by bigmik Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

Domain name prices vary with the extension. e.g. I pay a lot less for a dot info site than I would for a dot com - which is partially why I chose it. :) I have a dot co.uk as well but that's not really relevant here. Hi Mick, Thanks for letting Andrew know about FotS. I have dropped the moniker thing as suggested. Its good to hear he is happy with it and knows that it did not disappear. I have read up on the process of transferring the domain name, seems to be reasonably easy with VentraIP, so I will progress it and eventually drop the current one, both would work until the current one expires.
