But suddenly I was inspired. :) Designed to fit a 3.2" ILI9341 with only a short distance between them. 5mm should be plenty. A PicoMite can be surface mounted too, which reduces the rear projection even more. As usual, there are options though. :) It can be built without a display. Seven QWIIC sockets can be fitted. One size 1 and one size 2 Click locations are available. There is a socket for a ESP8266-01S (replaces the Click 1 socket). An expansion port is available, but only GP28 is on it as standard. A YD-RP2040 can be used (plug-in only) in which case GPIO pins GP29 and GP23 are available and a RTC can be plugged into the expansion port. The Click sockets have been arranged to have their own SPI so that it doesn't cause problems with the display. Each one also allows INT to be used as a second PWM channel. There is a LM111& regulator that only feeds the display and all external connectors. The Pico switcher powers the PicoMite and a microSD card socket. Hi Mick, This looks like a very usefull board. I have only one remark. The LM1117 is powerering all external sensors, so potentially it gets hot. And the heat tab of the package is not connected to any copper surface. There has been quite a lot of discussion going on about the ESP8266 modules, and what firmware to put in it. In view of current developments, would suggesting the WebMite not be a better choice, and reserving the ESP8266 connections for a different module (YD40 ?). Heatsinking the LM1117T is a pain. Eventually I decided to put silicon on the back, which has no solder mask, then just solder it down and let the heat dissipate where it will. There is a bit of copper on the other side too. Otherwise you can have a hell of a job if you ever have to remove one. It needs serious heat from a big iron tip to get the tab off. I must admit that I've not tried this arrangement to see how effective it is. It wouldn't be too much hassle to create a better heatsink area. There wouldn't be a lot of power dissipation. The regulator has 1.7V across it. That's about 1.4W at the full 800mA load. A while ago I did a few designs for little com modules that all fit the ESP8266 socket. Any of these could be used. I did them for HC12, JDY-40 and RS485 (but the latter won't fit mechanically). Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

Hi Mick, All, You could look at using one of these beasties, Buck MODULE I have ordered a couple to play with, I ‘think’ they are pretty small and look like the could be soldered vertically for space saving. Regards, Mick (The big one) . Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

Why don't you use AP63203WU-7? (https://de.farnell.com/diodes-inc/ap63203wu-7/dc-dc-wandler-sync-buck-1-1mhz/dp/3518307?ost=3518307) A friend has successfully used it with a cheap 4.7µF on a ESP32? Frank |

Those are very neat. I'll not bother at the moment though, I still have an outstanding 5-day guaranteed delivery order with AE that's now 15 days overdue! It's probably stuck on a container ship just outside the middle east area because it's (supposedly) left the warehouse. :( @ Frank First, I didn't know about them. Second, the postage charge from Farnell is almost £8 unless I spend about £50 before VAT and postage are added. Actually, the module suggested works out much cheaper and smaller by the time you've added the extra components, I suspect.
