I bought a few very inexpensive "Pico W" modules on Aliexpress, loaded the Webmite firmware, and got this error "[CYW43] Failed to start CYW43".  After some searching, found this page: https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?p=2169643

It turns out that the module uses an ESP8285 to implement WiFi with an AT command protocol.

It was a good thing that they were "inexpensive ".

Thanks for the warning. I’ll stick to paying retail price $6 from Raspberry Pi distributors

They run Picomite firmware.  I'll find a use for them.
