Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I hate Windows Security. I have now replaced it with AVG. I have a pager-transmitter software, that I had to jump through all sorts of loops to make work, cos Windoze Security kept FALSLY saying it was infected with a severe trojan - which it is NOT, I confirmed that with the NZ-based company that wrote the software. So, this is a false positive. I added the program folder as an exemption, but then Windoze did an update, and low and behold - this exemption has been deleted, Windoze now says that the program is infected again, and DELETES THE PROGRAM WITHOUT ASKING, so you can't run it anymore - cos Windoze Security decides that the false-positive is a severe trojan when it isn't, and now I can't run the bloody software anymore - if I leave Windows Security in place, that is. Phuck Windows Security - it seems more like a virus and virus-like behaviour to me, then it is actually any kind of protection. This is not the first time I have had to battle it over false-positives either, and it ends up being an ongoing issue between MS and the software provider. I wouldn't mind so much, but once you tell it 'This program is an exemption, and leave it alone - I'm fine with the supposed risk' - Windoze just over-rides you and decides by itself, to IGNORE your own exemptions and delete it anyway! Rant, rant rant! I am so angry! Sure, you can MAKE Windoze Security happily accept the software, if the writers of the software pay the HUGE FEES that MS demand for any software to be approved by them....which most 3rd-party companies simply can't afford to do with their programming software. BAH! Every time I have one of these issues, it draws me more and more towards Linux Mint, which is getting REALLY, REALLY good as a general-purpose replacement for Windoze - I have even put a couple of people on it when their Windoze machines died. Rant over. Sorry everyone - probably should not post when I am........"Annoyed". Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

To be honest, I blame the program developers for using a loader that Windows flags as a trojan. This used to happen frequently but just about everyone now uses loaders that don't flag as false positives. It can be done, but sometimes you have to spend some money for a loader rather than use some free code off the internet. I'm sure that the developers could have found a better loader for very little money - no need to get everything done by Microsoft. I've been using Windows Security for a long time now with virtually no problems. Quite a few of the programs I run are little ones that aren't the product of big software houses. They won't be spending much. Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |
