There's a version to fit the 800x400 display onto the F4 in the same thread.

3.5" ILI9488 header spacing is 92mm, PCB width 95mm, so it isn't impossible to fit but would complicate the layout and this thread is "ILI9341 experimenter's board".
Provision for a diode from LCD_DO to MISO and a resistor from LCD_CS to MISO would also be needed. ILI9341 displays still function correctly, including reading back from them if these are installed.

I could do one for the ILI9488, I suppose. I've not got one so I'd have to work from a drawing again (if I can find one!). There seem to be a couple of variants though. Which one? We need to be specific as I've found one that is 99mm long rather than 95mm  and another that seems to have pins on an Arduino pattern. TBH I'd like to do boards for displays that are current and that we know are definitely available.

Mick/John - thanks for the inputs. I now have a dilemma - do I buy an F4 and associated PCB or use the kind offer of the 4.3inch board which is not perfect but saves a lot of wiring????
In a good man decision making process I think I will do both - I have wanted and excuse for trying an F4 so this may be it.
Go you have the Gerbers for the 4.3inch pico board Mike?

Not yet, but I can sort those out pretty quickly. Not perfect? What would you like? At this stage things can be changed. :)

By the way, I always attempt to keep my PCBs down to 100mm x 100mm or less in order to keep the price down when ordering from JLCPCB. If you need a full backpack size for a large display then I can probably design a board to do it, but it will cost *you* a lot more to get it made. It doesn't cost *me* any extra. :)

If you fancy getting a Armmite F4 I still have some of the prototype PCB kits (as shown in the above link) to fit one onto a SSD1963 reverse piggy-back style, so that you can still get to the Armmite's IO pins.

Incidentally, the Armmite F4 drives its parallel displays in 16-bit mode so it's display is faster than the PicoMite, which uses 8-bit mode so that there are some pins left! Also, the pins used for the display are on a dedicated port and are not taken from the general IO pins.

Mick - on reflection you original design is good :) so no need to change anything. You point about the size of the PCB is well made.
Yes I would like an F4 PCB kit but couldn't see it in the thread. You could PM me with more specific details.

The kit for the Armmite F4 is 3.80 UKP + postage.
USA and Europe postage is 2.20 UKP and UK postage is 1.25 UKP.
Send me a PM if interested.

I've not published Gerbers for this one as my intention is to (eventually) improve on it (making it more like the Hydra 40-80). I don't know when that will be though as things are a bit awkward at present.

I'll sort out the Gerbers for the PicoMite/SSD1963 today, hopefully.  :)

Are you bold and daring? ;-)

A hack I've used before to join PCBs is to put matching vias on the edges of two boards, overlap them and solder them together tight with suitable pins. If the step due to the PCB thickness is a problem, just do it twice to get back to the same level. The result can be quite rigid, especially if the joining pads are wider than a single row.

I have a shear for chopping boards into pieces, so I always fill my 100x100mm boards completely with whatever might be useful.

There's always a way. :)
You can even join them with a piece of veroboard but it's a little fragile.

Something like this? It's designed to fit behind the 4.3" display so is covered by the larger ones. Some sort of support might be needed for the free end. The only GPn pins not brought out directly are GP20 and GP21, which are used for the I2C interface.




parallel tracks yet stripboard is rubbish?

Form wire staples to insert through both PCBs then the veroboard should fix that.
Or a second piece of veroboard on the other side.

I see that the +5V connection at the display is unwired.
I could add a wire link for my 7" SSD1963.

Yes, you are right Mick. Display +5V pin is wired.
What are the PCB dimensions?

It's about 65.5mm x 74mm. I wasn't too precise as the point is that it is hidden behind a 4.3" SSD1963. Obviously, if it is hidden behind one of those, then it is hidden behind the larger sizes. The fixing holes at the connector end line up with those of the 4.3" display.
