Forum Index : Microcontroller and PC projects : Need Linux EXT3/4 read support in Windoze....

I have some Linux formatted HDD's, I want to plug into my HDD dock under Windoze 10, and copy the files from these drives, to the new Linux NAS. To do that, I need Windoze to be able to see the Linux FS. I only care about READING - writing is NOT a requirement. I've looked at a few softwares, but they ALL want me to pay for the luxury of accessing Linux drives inside of Windoze. Push come to shove, I will setup another Linux machine, put the drives in that, and just use Linux natively to copy from one to the other, but it would be most efficient, if I could just do that on my W10 workstation with my ext3/4 drives in the SATA dock. Can anyone help? Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

You can't unplug the dock & plug it into a Linux system? My dock is USB so easy to move around (not that I have any Windows in use). Or could you reboot that machine into Linux temporarily? John |

I could - or put the drives into a Linux box and copy from there. But the USB3 dock is on the W10 machine, and as I use that the most at night while using my Windoze-only CAD software, I was hoping to be able to set a copy in motion while I did my work in my CAD. It's not the end of the world - as you say, I can put these in a native Linux machine and copy from there, but I seem to recall that there USED to be a free driver that would allow you to READ ext volumes in Windows - and would show up as a drive letter and you could just copy/paste from inside Windows Explorer. Linux reader from diskinternals looks OK. The free version is worth a try and if needed the pro version is not too expensive. https://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/ Jim VK7JH MMedit MMBasic Help |

Simply boot a life Linux version from USB. This can read write NTFS and EXT Format. Then copy the Files you need to the NTFS or FAT32 partition and you can use them in Windows. but Linux Reader is certainly a good option if you need to exchange data between formats more often Edited 2023-10-05 18:34 by Martin H. Hi Grogster i'm using Paragon ExtFS for Windows ext2/3/4 and read /write support. Easy to use and self-explanatory. Good luck |
