This is a new thread to discuss the computer game "Sabotage" carried over from this thread: https://www.thebackshed.com/forum/ViewTopic.php?FID=16&TID=15656 Who remembers the game from the '80s I remember it on Apple][ but I never saw it on other platforms such as C64, Atari or IBM PC. Here is a video of gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dmSwC2s8YQ -Carl |

The basic game play was that there were helicopters flying over your base dropping commandos on parachutes. The player would try to shoot down the helicopters before they could drop the commandos, and failing that, shoot the commandos before they landed. If a commando landed on your platform, he would blow up your base and the game was over. If 4 commandos landed on either side of your platform, they would form a human staircase and blow up your base. The only way to get rid of commandos after they landed was to drop another commando on his head by shooting off the parachute. If you lasted more than a few minutes, the bombers would come. The bombers never missed your base with their bombs, and the bombs were hard to hit once they were dropped. This is usually how the game ended for me LOL. Another interesting aspect of the game was that you would loose a point every time you fired at the enemy. This made it impossible to accumulate points if you just blasted away at everything in sight. If you timed it just right, you could take out several helicopters with the shrapnel from a helicopter you shot down above it. -Carl |

No, I never released the game. I'll need to go back and see where I got to. It was pretty complete. Steerable shells were quite easy to implement once I realized the algorithm. Shooting off an enemy's parachute (and squashing enemies on the ground) works. I think the enemy can blow up your gun emplacement. I didn't get to enemy jets and bombs. Probably no sound either. I can't see a joystick providing the precision needed to surgically removed a paratrooper's chute. My brother and I spent plenty of time as kids blowing the snot out of everything flying by. Never worried about high score, it was more fun to just obliterate everything. Visit Vegipete's *Mite Library for cool programs. |

This doesn't look difficult to code. Maybe sin/cos needed for the turret and track the bullets. I'm looking for a project. I'll see if I can emulate it to see what's involved. stan |
